I guess I'm just trying to provoke a thoughtful discussion here.
It's common knowledge that surnames ending in mann are German, where as surnames ending in man are usually non-German (English, Turkish, etc). In the New World many surnames were Americanized and many German surnames ending in mann were changed to man, just dropping the second n. So the thing is, are most surnames ending in man in the New World, are of German descent (Americanized) or of non-English descent. Now, I know some surnames ending in man aren't German, (Truman, Hartman), but it would look like most are German.
I will apologize for bringing up this frivolous topic, but it snowed a lot and I'm bored :p.
