In the town of Kulevcha, Odessa district, 500 Bessarabian Bulgarians stood up in protest and chased away Ukrainian army officers who came to mobilize them into the Ukrainian army to fight the war in Donbass. Local men acutely confronted the officer and chased the representatives of the Ukrainian ministry of defence away from the village. Residents of the Bessarabian Bulgarian village of Kyrnychky threatened to block of the Odessa-Izmail road if the mobilisation continued. In the Bessarabian Bulgarian village of Lymanske, on the other hand, the mobilization call-up orders were burnt en mass with gasoline. 11 Bulgarians have died in the Ukrainian conflict so far, 2 of which were burned alive in Odessa. This civil unrest in Bessarabian Bulgarian settlements in Ukraine brings reminder to the failed plan of ex-Soviet army officers of Bulgarian origin to establish a Bessarabian People's Republic in the predominantly-Bulgarian town of Bolgrad (http://www.economist.com/news/europe/21637415-little-known-place-interests-both-ukraine-and-russia-towards-unknown-region).

Bulgarians in Ukraine say they refuse to die for the Ukrainian state and are shocked that Bulgaria does not defend them from mobilization. As the Bulgarians protested, they said "no to the war!". The bulgarian state however, refuses protect the rights of Bessarabian Bulgarians in Ukraine and 2 years ago refused to politically aid Bessarabian Bulgarians requesting autonomy from Moldova. Unfortunately, it seems the Bulgarian government has once again proven to be a spineless and useless entity.
