30% Seafood sold in US Fraudulently Mislabeled
About 30% of seafood, which is sold in the US, is fraudulently mislabeled and it costs the seafood industry and consumers an estimated $20-25 billion annually.
Scientists at South Florida’s College of Marine Science have recently taken a step in the direction of reducing that fraud. A handheld scanner has been developed by researchers, which tests the RNA of fish to make sure that consumers are getting what they pay for.
