From what I heard, the most egregious issue was the damage done to one recently renovated historical fountain.

On one hand, you don't see Italian away fans trashing places like this.

On the other, it's probably not as bad as stabbing rival supporters and fleeing on a Vespa *coughRomanistiandNapoletanicough*.

When I first saw the news I became nauseous. I can't tell you how many times I was there... and how many millions of people over the years have gone to the Spanish Steps area.

Our Bourbon kings created that plaza 300 years ago, only for drunken football fans from another country to totally disrespect their hosts for no reason.

From my memory it's always been the British, the Dutch, and the Germans who have the worst reputations re: violent drunken hooliganism in Western Europe.

I'm not saying that Italians have no blood on their hands. I'll never forget what happened in 2007 in Catania during the Sicilian Derby. I was living in Italy at the time.

At present, Palermo are the only Sicilian squad in Serie A.

Catania and Trapani are in Serie B. Messina was a big deal but barely exists as a pro club anymore.

Without a Sicilian rival, and with Reggina relegated to Lega Pro, Palermo have to look to Cagliari and Napoli for their derby antagonists.

Palermo's only friends are Lecce, who have also been relegated. It's a very tough time for Palermo indeed. All of their closest friends and rivals are out of the top league.
