Hi all!
I would like to ask you wheter Sagvan Tofi could be a Kurdish name.
It is a name of one Czech actor, his mother is Czech and he says that his father was a Kurd.
Could it be true, or it is one of his mystifications?

Thank you!

I searched him up, he looks like he could be part Kurdish. I don't know about the name because Kurds have names that are of various origins, from Iranic and Turkic to Arabic derived ones.

Kurdish surnames are often a family name (such as mine) or a tribal name.

Sagvan ends in van which is actually really typically Kurdish. Mine ends in van too.

However because of persecution of Kurds by Turkish/Persian/Arabic regimes Kurds were forced to change their pure Kurdish names to Turkish or Arabic ones. Such as Ahmet Türk.

Internet sources says that firstname SAGVAN could be originated from toponymun "Saivan" , used in Marathi language.
What about origin of his lastname TOFI? Do you have some idea, please?
