Given the rising importance of Middle Eastern airports such as Istanbul-Ataturk, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha, as well as several airports in East Asia - notably Beijing-Capital, Shanghai-Pudong, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore - shall European airports maintain their long-held status as being the global transit points between East and West, North and South?

They won't be able, they have too many transit restrictions while airports in Asia don't.

Istanbul is in a interesting geographical point due it is between europe and asia, so one day, when asia developes itself as europe has, will be the most important airport of both continents.
