The wet season is coming to a close in California but the rain and snowfall totals were far from enough to help alleviate the state's water crisis. In an Op-Ed in the LA Times , Jay Famiglietti, a senior water scientist at NASA says California's water supply in its reservoirs will only last about one more year and the strategic backup supply and ground water are disappearing rapidly.

Muricans to use less? Are you even serious? They would rather bomb one more country to get more water.

You got a point.

Use ocean water and build up processing plants, thats what they did in London, expensive but hey, there is a lot ... A LOT of water in the oceans xD

I've been saying that for 15 years. The environmentalists won't go for it, though.

California grows more crops than some entire countries do. That requires lots of water. The real waste is for the golf courses built in Southern California deserts.

Yeah, that's the thing.... Cost, it's not very efficent to destill ocean water into being drinkeable clean-water, atleast not as of yet....

The ultimate combination in the future would be stations using solar-energy to provide clean water destilled from ocean water, and in the same time also being able to effeciantly produce hydrogen fuel...... That's going to be a game-changer.

Russia has recent experience annexing territory to score land and resources. Obama should ask Putin for advice on the matter.

At this stage Russia don't fight for resources as it has more than enough. Recent events were about protecting Russians and obtaining strategically advantageous positions while denying it to rivals.

Building golf courses in desert is fine but water processing plants are too expensive. Quite amusing, isn't it?

Murica will take fresh water from the loser allies of the NATO block (Romania, Bulgaria), that if Chevron doesn't spoil the underground water with its fracturing in the area in the Balkans

There are means to use water more efficiently. Ie repairing pipes, which lose water due to leaks, or using irrigation methods like drip.

It's not really the same thing, since water processing plants are publicly funded and golf courses for rich people in Palm Springs aren't.

Which would be no different than if America were to invade a foreign nation for water, which would protect Americans and be strategically advantageous.

Sure. But who has money for that? Hoodrats and illegals need more public benefits!

Our water problem is caused by the same people who caused our energy problem: environmentalists. Demand is overwhelming the supply, but nobody wants to do anything about it.

It will lead to some sort of crisis, for sure. No water means no crops, which puts an economic strain on the whole state. No crops means no food, which puts a financial strain on people all over the nation who now must pay higher prices to eat.

Somewhat true but there is still some difference. Russia taken over territory populated by Russians already to protect these Russians. America doesn't have to protect interests of any significant number of Americans living abroad. Plus Russia is getting involved within territories associated with Russia historically so there is a weak but still valid excuse for Russia's actions. Meanwhile wherever America goes it's pure invasion into affairs of foreign countries that have no historical nor cultural affiliation with USA. Thus in case of US we have clear case of egoistic concern for it's own comfort and greed at expense of others.

In other words rich people have more than enough money to solve the problem but would rather use these money for their own leisure while public health can go to hell. Don't you think there is a problem in the way that society function?

How about private investors? Is there a way to make water processing plant to be an attractive investment project or it can only be publicly funded?
