View Full Version : Post your archaic DNA matches

you can calculate it here: http://v2.gedmatch.com/archaic1.php

I have many matches, but I'll use the biggest chunks, which are more possibly true than the lesser ones (I've used 500 SNPs and 3 cM as minimum, although a cousin match needs like 5 cM and 700 SNPs, I think - maybe some of you know more about it and could help us):

You're a rarity. Because most people don't have this. Your match must be from an ANE link.

yeah: http://www.y-str.org/p/ancient-dna.html

Using your limits (500SNP, 3cm; setting the thresholds lower give much higher results for nearly all of them)

I'm related to LBK
Largest segment = 3.2 cM
Total of segments > 3 cM = 9.5 cM
676 SNPs on 4th chromosome

and Loschbour, the ancient Mesolithic western European
Largest segment = 3.6 cM
Total of segments > 3 cM = 3.6 cM
670 SNPs on the 6th

NE1, the neolithic find from Hungary
Largest segment = 4.5 cM
Total of segments > 3 cM = 11.7 cM
639 SNPs on the 21st chromosome

BR2, also from Hungary
Largest segment = 4.4 cM
Total of segments > 3 cM = 10.7 cM
1,046 SNPSs on the 8th

and Ust-Ishim, 45,000 year old Siberian
Largest segment = 4.3 cM
Total of segments > 3 cM = 14.6 cM
1,211 SNPs on Chromosome 1

making me a closer relation than you ;)

Ust-Ishim is my closest relative here and I'm not even a full European

Thank you, Gultekin. :) I suppose we can safely say that at least I have some ancient Western and Central European origins.. when I up the count from 300 to 500, I lose Northern Europe, but gain Eastern Europe. The readings are rather confusing and I feel a little indignant that I seem to have no ancient British origins ( via Hinxton) at all. Of course, if the original Anglo- Saxons came from the Low Countries and I match with Loschbour of Luxembourg, it might lend weight to my theory that the Gooding family was originally of the same stock as the Old English, the Angelcynn, if not the ancient English.

I don't think you can really read anything about ethnic nationality, a today's equivalent, in theses results. If you have some match with Motala or Gokhem2 for example, that was a kinda swarthy neolithic gal, closer to a very southern Euro or even maybe North African mixed, than anything Scandinavian. It's just ancient matches, it's cool in an ethnogenesis perspective but nothing more.

Total of segments > 3 cM = 16.5 cM

Comparison took 0.12888 seconds.
Loschbour is second on the list of relation, apparently.

Well, I'm new to all this and almost anything is wow to me. I looked at your results and you have more matches but on fewer(less) segments. She has a great match with Ust-Ishim and BR2 (over 20 segments each).

I find it strange how quite a few match Loschbour but not La Brana.

So the trick isn't to have many segments or large totals but large individual segments. Even in this case she beats everyone in this thread (6.5 with Ust-Ishim). I'm very close (6.4 with Loschbour) but still only second.

Large totals are also indicative, but longer segment lengths are perhaps slightly more indicative. Many segments, however, means almost nothing. In fact it would indicate a more distant relationship.

Hm. I read on the wiki article for the Karasuk that they were Indo-Iranians or Proto-Iranian. It says they were Europoid and light-eyed. Sounds like an interesting people...Also:

The Karasuk economy was mixed agriculture and stockbreeding.[1] It's culture appears to have been more mobile than the Andronovo.[1] The Karasuk were farmers who practiced metallurgy on a large scale.[2] Arsenical bronze artefacts are present.[1] Their settlements were of pit houses and they buried their dead in stone cists covered by kurgans and surrounded by square stone enclosures.[1] Industrially, they were skilled metalworkers, the diagnostic artifacts of the culture being a bronze knife with curving profiles and a decorated handle and horse bridles.[1] The pottery has been compared to that discovered in Inner Mongolia and the interior of China, with burials bronze knives similar to those from northeastern China.[5] Their realistic animal art probably contributed to the development of the Scytho-Siberian animal art style (Scythian art).

Segments shown are larger than 4.0 cM and 400 SNPs:
(at >5.0 cM and 500 SNPs I do not get any matches):

BR2, Hungary, 3.2 ky = 3 matches
NE1, Hungary, 7.2 ky & RISE497, Russia, ~2 ky = 1 match (the same segment)
RISE98, Sweden, 3.7 ky = 1 match
RISE493, Russia, 3.2 ky = 1 match
Ust-Ishim, Siberia, 45 ky = 1 match

Some matching segments look thicker than other, though.

So maybe I should count them as 2 matching segments.

In such case I'd have e.g. 5 matches with Hungary BR2.

At 1cm. It offers a decent picture of my archaic heritage from neolithic Hungary to mesolithic Eastern Europe.

I tested myself and other close relatives with GEDMATCH's ancient calculator. We matched high with LBK Stuttgart, Loschbour Lux, and slightly with BR2 Hungary, and NE1 Hungary. My dad who is very Scandinavian scored higher with the archaic DNA samples from what are now Sweden, Russia, and Siberia.

None of this was really that surprising.

This is just testing a few of the ancient DNA samples that have their kits on GEDmatch. The archaic DNA test doesn't seem to be on GEDmatch anymore so you have to compare manually. The results below are with the minimum segment size set to 3cM i think.

Total Half-Match segments (HIR) = 65.9 cM (1.839 Pct)
