His eyes are an original mutation. Probably similar to how light eyes developed tens of thousands of years ago. If he lived during a time when population numbers were sparse, his mutation may have had a chance of dominating his particular ethnic group within a few centuries.

I'm sceptical about the miracle claims of him being able to 'see in the dark' and 'having night-vision like a cat'... unless he eats a lot of carrots/vitamin A, which helps the eyes to see better in the dark.

I think his eyes looks beautiful though. I've never seen Chinese people with blue eyes before, so I think he looks special and unique and this is the reason why he's been given so much attention around the internet.

There is a village in Northwest China supposedly descended from a Roman legion in which the people have noticeable European admixture and some have light eyes.

Interesting proposition. Does this mean European blue eyes reaching 80%+ frequency in some parts are the result of inbreeding? For example when this Chinese boy mates with a brown eyed girl, the offspring will be hybrids for his blue eyed gene, and they must either find another person with this blue eyed mutation (very unlikely), OR some degree of inbreeding is needed to maintain successful pairing of the 2 blue eyed genes.

There is very little or no Roman admixture in those people. They are the same as other NW Chinese. Admixture would be from nearby Tungid populations or something similar.

That's cool.
Probably quite unlikely that it's because of any Roman ancestry though. More likely some uyghur-like admixture, or maybe even something more ancient:

Most likely Tocharian.

But genetic tests have shown that, in fact, they don't.

If this guy is Han, it might be he has a little Silk Road in him, or it might be original, as you say.

Yeah.
Tocharians have been very strongly linked with those Tarim mummies I posted though. Likely the same people.

No, it could have just slowly spread as recessive traits, but spread far enough in the population, it could come to become dominant when selected for.

Yeah, i doubt they are descended from Romans. They are more likely admixed with certain light haired Caucasian strains prevalent in Central Asia.
