The last time I went abroad (to The Netherlands) few Dutch people asked me if I'm French and Italian. However, most of them knew intuitivbely that I'm Spaniard.

You can pass in southern italy and some parts in north africa and yo don't look french at all but maybe because you're taller than the average berid people may assume that

I agree, but I don't find him particulary light for a Moroccan or an Algerian... Northern of course. I would even say he has a quite common look for Algerian and Moroccan from the north

You can pass anywhere that Berid types occur. Iberia, NW Africa, Sicily, Malta, Cyprus, Dodecanese, etc.

I've seen lighter and darker North Africans, and he is definitely on the lighter side of the spectrum

Actually.. on most plots Spanish plot north of northern Italians by a small margin, but just south of the southern French. Yes, it can be hard to believe indeed. Then in turn you start getting some Albanians and mainland Greeks plotting with/around Tuscans but shifted slightly eastward, which makes sense since there is some NE Euro genes in the Balkans from Indo-European times.

North Italians have higher Caucasian admixture, which makes them plot south/east of Iberians but not necessarily look as dark.. Caucasian is not a "dark" component.

These components are a bunch of genes that determine ancestry not pigmentation.

Maybe that's why Iberians are the swarthiest Europeans (due to climate adaption)

This is based on history.

Spain used to be located between Lyon and Turin. But Spaniards complained that it was too cold in the Alps, so they moved it south to its present location, brick by brick.
