these maps could go even further to be honest. I'm not completely knowledgable about this topic, but for example, the Han people can be placed into further subgroups, e.g. Hakka people are one of them. the people who were at the center of the Taiping Rebellion!

That's a good point. There is great diversity within the Han Chinese group as well, a lot of that is reflected in the linguistic diversity map, which does include groups like the Hakka. Of course, in reality, the map is still an oversimplification of the linguistic diversity that exists.

Islamic China - Primarily defined by two major spheres. The mostly Turkic ethnic groups of Northwest China, the Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Tatars, Kyrgyz, and Iranid Tajiks.

And the very different Hui Muslims, who are very assimilated with the Han Chinese, but have represented a strong Islamic element in the Han Chinese world since the Tang Dynasty (8th Cent).
