A new country was founded in Balkans on teritory unwanted by neither Serbia nor Croatia. Chezh Vít Jedlička decided to create his own country there based on libertarian ideas called Liberland. This 7km2 country is open to anyone to apply for citizenship and is the third smalles country in Europe after Vatican and Monaco.

Vit declared that he expects Serbia and Croatia to be the first countries to recognize Liberland and that he will send them a diplomatic letter asking for the same.

Interesting project.
What will be the national language and the national religion?

I guess he will wait for situation to stabilize since he expects Immigrants from Europe (mostly libertarians) to come over. I guess if 95% of them are Spanish then its Spanish. And so on.

I wish them a lot of luck and to show balkans how easy it is to create a functional country

I've heard of this "unwanted land" claimed by neither Serbia nor Croatia, and I knew this was just something waiting to happen xD

BTW even though the land mentioned is unclaimed on the Serbo-Croatian border, I think it's still administrated by Croatia.

The teritory seems uninhabitted without any buildings on the island/peninsula

Why is the language Czech?

What will be the national language and the national religion?
It says the official language is Czech. And since the President is a Czech it will probably have no official religion.

Should be renamed to "City-state of Liberland". I doubt no more than 10 000 people could live there.

They should choose esperanto as national language. It should fit better with their goals and they should get the support of an existant community to buils the citystate

It's not a habitable area from what I see, and even highly subject to floods.

Other than that, I don't see any direction in this project. Funny nonetheless.

We are talking about the Balkans! Religious fighting is inevitable :dev

Lol it has become a hit in Turkey, will definitely have a significant Turkish population. :D

In case you're worried, it wouldn't be like in Germany or Holland, they are secularists who oppose AKP.

There should not be democracy out there, since it is too small and can be manipulated by varying groups. The current leader is fine, but there can be civil societies.

I'll be seeking to place a bust of Ataturk somewhere. :D

I go on the forum and it's full of turks. A lot of silly thread as "I'AM PROUD TO BE TURK!!!" Many thread in turksh in the english section.
Obviously turks want to transform the place in a turkish village. If they wants to sucees, they will have to make a strict selection on the origin of the futur citizens. As it go against their libertarian philosophy.
The futur of liberland is dark.

I'm sure %95 of them will not even bother.

Actually, I think there should be a quota for each nation that has shown a significant amount of interest so far.

I imagine a lot of somalis will turn out to be libertarian.

I would support the idea but seeing it is supposed to attract libertarian anglophiles, I am cathegorically against.

Why not?
Guys behind the project are serious about their goal.
The claim seems legit on a legal base and others nations may recognize this new nation.
A lot of billionary/millionary already started some similar project, it's a possibility that this one works.
Anyway, i'm pretty sure that if another nationality (armenians, kurdishs) troll/do the same with turks, you shouldn't have the same opinion.

I'm pretty sure, it will more or less finish as an hippy fail community, but i will follow the project.

You should understand by now that entire former Yugoslavia is a neoliberal project.

That sounds very fishy "land that neither Serbia nor Croatia want" what country doesn't want land? Who knows whats on that land. Literally the only instance i could think of when a country might not want a piece of land is if some nuclear disaster happened there and then it would be understandable.

Yeah. First time I hear about this unwanted land. Can't help myself not to think it is some kind of an Internet joke.

Arbitration is a pain in the ass, both countries probably claim it but can't be arsed pursuing it.

Serbia and Croatia make their territorial claim on two differents pact. On both, this peace of land is consider a part of the other countries. You can check the full history on wikipedia. I don't remember the details.
They are the same situation for a peace of land between egypte and sudan.
