I will say that in the coastal regions, especially the area around Shanghai, there is very little gender imbalance at all. I think there are more girls than boys. But in the rural areas where boys are valued over girls, then of course it's going to be a huge problem.

It has gotten so bad that rural Chinese men in the inland provinces are marrying Vietnamese, Cambodian, Burmese, Filipina brides, some taken against their will. But I've also heard that there were cases where there are escaped Vietnamese brides. And many of those brides want to marry rich men, as in the nouveau-riche not poor rural men.

This recent case was reported 12 hours ago, four Vietnamese brides married to rural Chinese peasants in Shandong province escaped. The reasons seem to be economic reasons, they wanted to be married to rich men, not poor peasants.

There was a story, I think the thread is on this site, about Chinese men taking african women. Chinese businessmen that move to africa for work that is.
