The Safavid Empire was founded with a very deep Twelver Shiite character, the religious difference was always a great deterrent.

In fact, Nader Shah and the Afsharid dinasty (which is basically just him and a couple of braindead kids of his) actually did try to start a pan-Muslim Empire on the back of military genius and victories against Ottomans; one of the things Nader did consistently was to persecute the Shiite clergy, and to promote instead, a Sunni-friendly reading of religion.

Question is far too hypothetic anyway. Anything and everything could have happened if some Deus Ex-Machina had united polities from the Eastern Mediterranean till India.

Nothing, really. Muslims always find some reason to fight each other once they run out of easy nonmuslims.

A more realistic hypothetical:

Ottomans + Mughal empire uniting under a single empire stretching from Balkans to Bengal. from the Hagia sophia to the Taj mahal. And I think it would have been good for Islamic imperialism to focus the Turkic 'energy' from Mediterrenean to the Indian Ocean. Maybe China would have been eventually conquered, who knows.

It would have been world empire stretching from Balkans to the borders of China

"Ottoman-Safavid" united.

What a stupid term? They were deadly enemies and their united was impossible. It looks like the idea of Byzantine-Sasanid or USSR-USA united.

Don't you just love crazy hypotheticals, back here in the real world of straight men the crazy hypotheticals are about threesomes with Monica Belluci and Kiera Knightley.....You virtual nationalists put extinct empires in their place with glee, LoL

If there was a 'uniting' it would have been short term and out of convenience exactly like what happened with the Allied forces and the USSR. Look what happened later (Cold War)? Idealogical differences will not disappear over night. In this case, Mohammedan sect blood feuding.

So for this crazy hypothetical of yours to even get off the ground you need to formulate a scenario; what would bring them together, a second wave out of Arabia, an umpteenth barbarian wave out of Inner Asia (may I remind the bubble-boy-brained virtual nationalists Tamerlane slaughtered both the Horde and Ottomans alike and didn't think twice of 'Turkic brotherness'), a rising European power... Well, we can scratch the last one out, that happened already, both Ottoman and Persia were passively sided with Adolf

Prisoner of Ice is bang on the money no matter the scenario; some internal difference will pull them back apart...

But thats not the answer you probably wanted eh, probably some stats nerd 'look at combine army might of a thousand kebab vendors mashallah' autistic self masturbatathon..... LoL
