Few days ago I oppened a thread about this new country. And new developments warrant a new thread.
Apparently, 160 000 people have filled for citizenship , a far greater number than the expected 5000.

Anyone is free to join the new state based on libertarian ideas as long as they are not neo-nazis, communists or criminals :D

On your next holiday in Eastern Europe, make sure to include Liberland in your itinerary. In fact, if you wish, you are just in time to apply for citizenship of this newly founded country; you may just become one of the lucky 3-5000 people to be selected to form part of this new nation.

But only when the immigration office, which is currently made up of 7 volunteers, is done sifting through the applications one by one. And expect to wait a while, since 160,000 registrations have already been made via the Liberland website.

Vit Jedlicka, a Czech man, has just appointed himself president of the Free Republic of Liberland, the new country he founded in a section of no-man's land nestled in between Serbia and Croatia. It is stated on the new country's website:

"Liberland came into existence due to a border dispute between Croatia and Serbia. This area along the west bank of the Danube river is not claimed by Croatia, Serbia or any other country. It was therefore terra nullius, a no man’s land, until Vít Jedlička seized the opportunity and on 13 April 2015 formed a new state in this territory – Liberland. The boundary was defined so as not to interfere with the territory of Croatia or Serbia. Its total area of approximately 7 km˛ is now the third smallest sovereign state, after the Vatican and Monaco."

A statement announcing the creation of the new country last week reads, “The objective of the founders of the new state is to build a country where honest people can prosper without being oppressed by governments making their lives unpleasant through the burden of unnecessary restrictions and taxes." The country’s motto is: “To live and let live.” It sounds Utopian, doesn't it?

Jedlicka, 31, is an active member of the conservative Party of Free Citizens in the Czech Republic. Setting up Liberland was part of a political stunt after opposition of certain activities by the Czech government proved unsuccessful, however what began as a bit of a protest has turned into a real project receiving real support.

Meh, nor the first, nor the most original whimsy of that sort.
The cake goes to that dude who claimed a strip of land between Egypt and Sudan so his daughter could be a princess.
