Europes first Victoria's Secret store was opened in West London in 2012.
It's also the largest VS store in the world.
A VS spokesperson said the company plans to open even more VS stores in London
(they've already put another VS store inside the massive Westfield Shopping Centre in east London.)
The company has plans to expand more VS stores across the rest of the UK.

'A VS fragrance called 'London' was launched to celebrate
the opening of the Flagship VS store in West London.

The Victoria's Secret on New Bond Street store covers over four floors and 40,386 feet. It is massive.
This flagship store includes everything from Victoria's Secret Pink
to Victoria's Secret Designer Collection,
so really there's something for every price point here.

Occupying 40,386 square feet and spanning four floors,
the choice on offer is overwhelming, as is the décor.
Open until 9pm every weeknight, with music soundtracks, a gigantic mirrored staircase,
and fitting rooms and lavatories designed to look like boudoirs.

And as if that wasn't enough, a wall of 15 fragrances, including the latest limited-edition scent 'London',
created in the store's honour, welcome shoppers into the glitzy emporium.

However only the super-rich or super-famous will be invited into the top floor VIP section.
Suites inside the luxury Flagship Store comes complete with vintage-inspired bathrooms.

It's like a lingerie museum in there.
Everywhere you turn you're surrounded by images of supermodels aka Victoria Secret Angels
such as Miranda Kerr and Rosie Huntington Whiteley are inside the store.

Even the staircase showcases a two-storey video screen playing footage
of everything from shows to behind-the-scenes on commercials.'

Agent Provocateur is the worlds most glamourous lingerie line,
where supermodels like Kate Moss have advertised the lingerie from this UK store,
and their customers include David and Victoria Beckham.
Its main store is in Soho, London.
There's live catwalk shows in some of the larger West End department stores,
and also inside the massive Westfield centre too.

Annual Summertime Roller-Skating Discos in London's Hyde Park
(there's boating lakes, horse-riding and a lot of people and families roller-skating in the big park during the summertime,
in addition to the big Party In The Park event where popular bands and singers perform each summer.)
During the winter months, Hyde Park turns into the Winter Wonderland
full of winter-themed fairground rides, an outdoor ice-skating rink, and a Magical Ice Kingdom.

Yo! Sushi stores across London are so cool.
You go inside them, select what you like from a conveyor belt,
and you when you're finished eating your fish, vegetables and fruit,
you take the coloured bowls to the counter,
And the price is determined by the colour of the bowls.
There's also flying trays to serve people too.

There's over 70 different types of world cuisines in Londons cafes, restaurants and shops,
including Greek, Italian, Lebanese, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Mexican, Russian, French, Spanish, Argentine,
fruits and vegetables from all over the globe in the markets,
and salads and fresh juice drinks from different cultures
can easily be found in the supermarkets and cafes.

Wembley Stadium, London.
The Home of Football.

Wembley Stadium is a large stadium used primarily for English national football games,
American Football (a game based on Englands game of rugby,)
rugby, and music concerts,
located in Wembley Park, north-west London, England,
which opened in 2007 on the site of the original Wembley Stadium.

(Some English people object to the use of our national stadium being used for American Football games,
but it actually brings in extra revenue and entertainment when the stadium is not in use for other events.)

The original and historic 'Twin Towers' Wembley Stadium was knocked-down and demolished in 2003,
so that a new stadium could be built to replace the Twin Towers stadium and host US Football games too.

Designed by HOK Sport and Foster and Partners,
it includes a partially retractable roof and the 134-metre-high (440 ft) Wembley Arch.
The stadium was built by Australian firm Multiplex at a cost of £798 million.

The stadium's signature feature is a circular section lattice arch of 7 m (23 ft)
internal diameter with a 315 m (1,033 ft) span,
erected some 22° off true, and rising to 133 m (436 ft).
It supports all the weight of the north roof
and 60% of the weight of the retractable roof on the southern side.
The archway is the world's longest unsupported roof structure.

The stadium hosts major football matches including the FA Cup Final
and home matches of the England national football team.

Wembley Stadium is a UEFA category four stadium.
With 90,000 seats it is the second largest stadium in Europe
and the largest stadium in the United Kingdom.
It is owned by The Football Association
through their subsidiary Wembley National Stadium Ltd (WNSL).

In addition to the FA Cup Final, the stadium hosts the season-opening FA Community Shield,
the League Cup Final, the Football League Trophy and the Football League play-offs.

It hosted the 2011 and 2013 UEFA Champions League Final,
the Gold medal matches at the 2012 Olympic Games football tournament,
and will host both the semi-finals and final of UEFA Euro 2020.

The stadium also hosts the rugby league Challenge Cup Final,
NFL American Football International Series and music concerts.

The O2 Arena,
(the worlds busiest entertainment arena
including NBA American Basketball League games,
music concerts, cinemas, restaurants, shops,
and NHL Hockey games featuring teams from Canada and the US,)
located on the Greenwich Peninsula
in the south eastern region of Central London, England.

The O2 Arena was formerly known as The Millennium Dome,
and is colloquially referred to simply as 'The Dome,'
which was the original name of the large dome-shaped building,
originally used to house the Millennium Experience,
a major exhibition celebrating the beginning of the third millennium of time.

The dome is now a key exterior feature of The O2 Arena.

The Prime Meridian of time passes the western edge of the Dome
and the nearest London Underground station is North Greenwich on the Jubilee line.
The Blackwall transport tunnel underneath the River Thames is close to The Dome,
in addition to overhead sky cable cars over the river and next to the Dome.
Driverless DLR trains operate closeby in the Docklands Islands
which travel past the skyscrapers in Canary Wharf
(London's third city and second largest financial district after the City of London)

The dome is one of the largest of its type in the world.
Externally, it appears as a large white marquee with twelve 100 m-high yellow support towers,
one for each month of the year, or each hour of the clock face,
representing the role played by Greenwich Mean Time.
In plan view it is circular, 365 m (one metre for each day in a standard year) in diameter.

It has become one of the United Kingdom's most recognisable landmarks.
It can easily be seen on aerial photographs of London.
Its exterior is reminiscent of the Dome of Discovery built for the Festival of Britain in 1951.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennium_Dome

The cost of developing the whole Greenwich Peninsula area was estimated at GBP£4 billion in 2006.

Nearly one-third of the ground floor of the dome awaits development in Phase II.
A mezzanine level is also located on the western side of the dome
in which AEG are still determined to locate a super casino.

Alternatively, an attraction is required that would attract enough tourist
who would wish to stay overnight and bring in sufficient investment to allow Phase II
to proceed as well as the building of the planned hotel.

It has been suggested that The O2 could be a cruise terminal as an alternative to a super casino.
if the super casino were not possible.
In late 2007, Marine engineering consultancy, Beckett Rankine,
were appointed to investigate the possibility of the cruise terminal being built.
The remaining land around The O2 Entertainment District will be filled with shops and offices.
Short term car parks are currently being built.

Various buildings are housed within the dome structure including an arena,
known as The O2 arena and an Entertainment Avenue consisting of various restaurants and bars.
There is also a VIP club lounge, an operations room, a media centre with high definition facilities
and a number of dressing rooms as well as a VIP entrance/exit for performers.

All the venues in the complex use the latest lighting, sound and security technology,
including RFID smart card tagging of staff and VIP guests, and digitally managed sound.
There are four computer server rooms to provide this technology.

The complex is also covered by CCTV and security personnel.
Arena visitors and their bags are screened with X-ray machines
and metal detectors at the main entrance.

The O2 Arena (referred to as the North Greenwich Arena for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics)
is a 20,000 capacity venue, primarily used for live music.
It is located at the centre of The O2 and is the first American-style,
multi-purpose arena in London.
It is the second largest arena in Europe after the Manchester Arena,
but is the busiest music arena in the world.

The arena has hosted multiple music and sporting events,
and in 2008 exceeded ticket sales for both Madison Square Garden and the Manchester Arena.

The O2 has a 2720 capacity live music club for smaller music events, club events,
after shows, corporate and private events.
It contains four bars: two on the main ground floor area in front of the stage,
one in the V.I.P lounge called the Purple Lounge and one in the stalls, called Bleachers.
The V.I.P Purple Lounge is not in direct view of the stage, but V.I.P guests have access
to "Kings Row"; the best seats in the venue.
The circle is on the top floor, above "Kings Row".
There are no seats with obstructed views.

The O2 Bubble is a two-storey bubble-shaped exhibition space
built to museum standards, which opened in November 2007.
It is made from ETFE, the same material used for the Eden Project,
and the bubble itself is reportedly based on the Eden Project.
Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs
was the first exhibition in the Bubble and after that was Body Worlds.
In October 2009 it was Michael Jackson: The Official Exhibition, a collection of Jackson's personal items
from his estate and Neverland Ranch, costumes and props from his tours and videos.

In 2009, the third floor of the bubble became a permanent exhibition called the British Music Experience,
a sixty-year retrospective of British popular music.

The Entertainment Avenue is a wide pedestrian avenue within The O2,
with artificial palm trees and other decorations,
built around the circular arena building which takes up the centre of the dome structure.
The entertainment avenue has buildings on either side,
which are leased to tenants who run bars and restaurants, and resembles a shopping centre.

The buildings on the Entertainment Avenue include a music club known as indigO2,
an exhibition space known as The O2 bubble,
a cinema managed by Cineworld and 25 bars and restaurants.
The cinema includes 11 screens over 2 levels including one 770 capacity auditorium (Sky Super Screen)
which is the third largest screen, by screen-size, in London, and the sixth largest screen in the UK.
It uses the vista ticketing system, where tickets can be purchased from any stall selling refreshments.
Cineworld began operating the cinema, taking over from Vue in 2010.

Fast food outlets have been banned from the development as the theme is 'aspirational but accessible',
trying to avoid it being seen as a shopping centre but more like Covent Garden.

Announced in 2011, Up at The O2 officially opened on 21 June 2012.
It involves an expedition across the roof of The O2 along a 190m long tensile fabric walkway
Halfway, a central platform provides 360 degree views of the city,
before a descent down to the base of the venue on the other side.
From the platform, visitors can see the Olympic Park, Thames Flood Barrier,
The Shard Skyscraper, Historic Royal Greenwich World Heritage Sites,
such as The Royal Observatory
(which played a major role in the history of astronomy) and Canary Wharf.

The O2 also has one multi-purpose indoor events space for live music and night clubbing.
Competing with other similar events spaces such as Brixton Academy, the club is called Building Six (formerly Matter & Proud2).

Special events or minor events which do not require or cannot be held in the indoor venues are held in the piazzas
– The London Piazza, Peninsula Square outside the main entrance of The O2, and the area around the main entrance.
The London Piazza has featured an indoor beach, ice rink and dry ski slope.

Brooklyn Bowl, a bowling alley and live music venue combined was also launched in the O2 Arena.

The O2 Arena also hosts numerous music concerts and shows, NBA American Basketball League games,
NHL Hockey games with teams from Canada and the US playing at the London O2 Arena.

Wimbledon, south-west London.
The Home of Tennis.

The Championships, Wimbledon;
The Wimbledon Championships or simply Wimbledon,
is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, and widely considered the most prestigious.

Wimbledon is famous for its elegantly dressed, chic and stylish spectators
(like with the annual glamourous Chelsea Flower Show and the Royal Acscot Horse Racing events in England)
and for limousines, champagne, and strawberries & cream.

It has been held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London since 1877.
It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments (Majors),
the others being the Australian Open, the French Open (Roland Garros) and the US Open.

Since the Australian Open shifted to hard court in 1988,
Wimbledon is the only Major still played on grass, the game's original surface,
which gave the game its original name of "lawn tennis".

The tournament takes place over two weeks in late June and early July,
culminating with the Ladies' and Gentlemen's Singles Final,
scheduled for the second Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Five major, junior, and invitational events are held each year.

The hard court (Plexicushion) Australian Open and clay court French Open
precede Wimbledon in the year, and the hard court (DecoTurf) US Open follows.

For men, the grass court Queen's Club Championships, in London, England,
and the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany, serve as warm-up events;
for women, the Aegon Classic in Birmingham and two joint events,
the Topshelf Open in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands and the Eastbourne International.

Wimbledon traditions include a strict dress code for competitors,
the eating of strawberries and cream by the spectators, and Royal patronage.

The tournament is also notable for the absence of sponsor advertising around the courts.
In 2009, Wimbledon's Centre Court was fitted with a retractable roof to lessen the loss of playing time due to rain.

The Olympic Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park,
known as the Olympic Stadium, is a stadium
located in Stratford, East London, England.
It was built close to the massive Westfield Shopping Centre
in Stratford City, East London.

It is located at Marshgate Lane in London's
Stratford district in the Lower Lea Valley.

It was constructed primarily to serve as the host stadium
for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics,
where it hosted the track and field events,
along with its opening and closing ceremonies.

The stadium is located 6.5 miles (10.5 km) from Central London,
but six minutes travel away from
the Central London St. Pancras International rail station
via Stratford International Highspeed rail services.

The stadium is currently under renovation,
having been closed since 2013 for transformation works.

Arguments happened between Tottenham and West Ham football clubs in east London
as they both wanted to have ownership of the stadium for their clubs.
The London Mayor intervened, along with the Greater London Authority,
to decide on which London club should be allowed to keep the stadium.

Once re-opened in 2016, it will have a standard capacity of 54,000
and will be the long-term home of West Ham United Football Club and British Athletics.

As part of the renovation, the lower seating bowl will be replaced
with a retractable seating system
allowing for acceptable seating for both Athletics and Pitch sports.

As of January 2015, the existing roof, with the iconic triangular floodlight towers,
has been removed and is being replaced with a new one re-using a similar design style
and the original floodlight lamps in a similar arrangement as before.

The stadium will also host both the 2017 IAAF World Championships in Athletics
and the 2017 IPC Athletics World Championships.
(London won the bid to host the 2017 World Athletics Championships,
and England will host the World Rugby Cup in 2015
across various stadiums and arenas in London and England.)

The stadium had a capacity of 80,000, making it the third-largest stadium in England behind Wembley and Twickenham.

The Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park, in East London, is a sporting complex
originally built for the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
It contains the athletes' Olympic Village and several of the sporting venue
including the Olympic Stadium and London Aquatics Centre, besides the London Olympics Media Centre.

The park is overlooked by the ArcelorMittal Orbit,
an observation tower and Britain's largest piece of public art.
It was simply called Olympic Park during the Games but was renamed afterwards
to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II,
(though it is not an official Royal Park of London).
The park occupies an area straddling four east London boroughs;
Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Waltham Forest.
Part of the park reopened in July 2013,
whilst a large majority of the rest of the park
(including the Aquatics Centre, Velopark and Orbit observation tower) reopened in April 2014.

Lords, The Home of Cricket

Lords Cricket Ground (about ten minutes walk from me) in Maida Vale, north-west London.
The house of iconic supermodel Kate Moss is just behind this cricket ground,
and close to Sir Paul McCartney's house (of The Beatles.)
His house is close to the famous Abbey Road music studio,
which is world-famous and the best music studio in the world. (It was made famous by The Beatles.)
Tourists come to see the music studios there.

The elegance and atmosphere of the crowds who gather outside of Lords
to watch this middle-class sport is very charming and nice.

The video clips below of Lords are beautiful.

The Oval is another famous English cricket ground over in south-east London.

Australia and England play each other in these historic cricket grounds for The Ashes.

Somerset House is a large Neoclassical building situated
on the south side of the Strand in central London,
overlooking the River Thames, just east of Waterloo Bridge.
The building, originally the site of a Tudor palace,
was designed by Sir William Chambers in 1776,
and further extended with Victorian wings to the north and south.

The East Wing forms part of the adjacent King's College London.

The original Somerset House was a Tudor palace
commissioned by the Duke of Somerset.
In 1775 it was demolished to make way for an entirely new building,
effectively the first purpose-built office block in the world.

The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Central London

The words ‘Covent Garden’ have long been used as a synonym
for British opera thanks to this beautiful and deeply historic venue
which is home to two world-famous companies - The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet.

Originally built in 1858, the current Royal Opera House
is the third incarnation of this high culture hub,
and legends including Maria Callas, Margot Fonteyn, Luciano Pavarotti
and Rudolf Nureyev have graced its stage.

A major reconstruction in the 1990s resulted in the creation
of a series of beautiful, modern public spaces to complement
the historic grandeur of Covent Garden’s main arena and further improvements are being planned.
http://www.coventgardenlondonuk.com/place/royal-opera-house
http://www.roh.org.uk/

The Royal Opera House is an opera house and major performing arts venue
in Covent Garden, central London.
The large building is often referred to as simply "Covent Garden",
after a previous use of the site of the opera house's original construction in 1732.

It is the home of The Royal Opera, The Royal Ballet,
and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.

Originally called the Theatre Royal, it served primarily as a playhouse
for the first hundred years of its history.
In 1734, the first ballet was presented.
A year later, Handel's first season of operas began.
Many of his operas and oratorios were specifically written
for Covent Garden and had their premieres there.

The current building is the third theatre on the site
following disastrous fires in 1808 and 1856.
The façade, foyer, and auditorium date from 1858,
but almost every other element of the present complex
dates from an extensive reconstruction in the 1990s.

The Royal Opera House seats 2,256 people
and consists of four tiers of boxes and balconies and the amphitheatre gallery.
The proscenium is 12.20 m wide and 14.80 m high.
The main auditorium is a Grade I listed building.

and was granted a royal charter in 1956,
becoming recognised as Britain's flagship national ballet company.

The Royal Ballet was one of the foremost ballet companies of the 20th century,
and continues to be one of the world's most famous ballet companies to this day,
generally noted for its artistic and creative values.
The company employs approximately 100 dancers
and has purpose built facilities within the Royal Opera House.
The official associate school of the company is the Royal Ballet School,
and it also has a sister company, the Birmingham Royal Ballet, which operates independently.
The Prima ballerina assoluta of the Royal Ballet is the late Dame Margot Fonteyn.

The English National Ballet

The English National Ballet is a classical ballet company
founded by Dame Alicia Markova and Sir Anton Dolin
and based at Markova House in South Kensington, London, England.

Along with the Royal Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet and Scottish Ballet,
it is one of the four major ballet companies in Great Britain.

English National Ballet is one of the foremost touring companies in Europe,
performing in theatres throughout the UK
as well as conducting international tours and performing at special events.

The company employs approximately 65 dancers and a symphony orchestra,
and there is also an associate school, the English National Ballet School,
which is independent from the ballet company.
The company regularly performs seasons at the London Coliseum
and has been noted for specially staged performances at the Royal Albert Hall,
the Concert for Diana and for producing a new ballet
based on the animated TV character Angelina Ballerina.
The Patron of English National Ballet is HRH The Duke of York.

Ballet dancers train in their art from a very young age,
and spend hours and hours a day practicing and flexing every muscle
in the body, even in times of immense pain.

The Royal Albert Hall,
one of the UK's most treasured music venues,
and home to the annual Proms;
'The world's largest and most democratic musical festival.'

The Royal Albert Hall is a concert hall on the northern edge of South Kensington, West London,
best known for holding the Proms concerts annually each summer since 1941.

It has a capacity (depending on configuration of the event) of up to 5,272 seats.
The Hall is a registered charity held in trust for the nation and receives no public or government funding.

Since its opening by Queen Victoria in 1871, the world's leading artists
from several performance genres have appeared on its stage
and it has become one of the UK's most treasured and distinctive buildings.

http://i.picasion.com/resize80/b7fd34328812f71f453932a7aeac0839.jpg

Each year it hosts more than 350 events including classical concerts, rock and pop,
ballet and opera, sports, award ceremonies, school and community events,
charity performances and banquets.

The Hall was originally supposed to have been called the Central Hall of Arts and Sciences,
but the name was changed to the Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences
in tribute to Queen Victoria's deceased consort, Prince Albert.

It forms the practical part of a national memorial to the Prince Consort –
the decorative part is the Albert Memorial directly to the north in Kensington Gardens,
now separated from the Hall by the road Kensington Gore.

The Royal Albert Hall was built to fulfill the vision of Prince Albert (Queen Victoria's consort)
of a 'Central Hall' that would be used to promote understanding and appreciation
of the Arts and Sciences and would stand at the heart of the South Kensington estate,
surrounded by museums and places of learning.

The Hall is a Grade I Listed building;
it has been in continuous use since it was opened in March 1871.

It was always conceived as a multipurpose building to host not only concerts
but exhibitions, public meetings, scientific conversations and award ceremonies.

The Proms, more formally known as The BBC Proms,
or The Henry Wood Promenade Concerts presented by the BBC,
is an eight-week summer season of daily orchestral classical music concerts
and other events held annually, predominantly in the Royal Albert Hall in London.

http://i.picasion.com/resize80/450ecf0ee17ac3c771890ebe0a046377.jpg
http://i.picasion.com/resize80/e20d74b88f9f28498dfe56bc386d1181.jpg

Founded in 1895, each season currently consists of more than 70 concerts in the Albert Hall,
a series of chamber concerts at Cadogan Hall,
additional Proms in the Park events across the United Kingdom on the last night,
and associated educational and children's events.

http://i.picasion.com/resize80/82b914270aa3fc2dda56e492320ecc87.jpg

In 2009 the total number of concerts reached 100 for the first time.
In the context of classical music festivals, Jiří Bělohlávek has described the Proms as
"the world's largest and most democratic musical festival".

http://i.picasion.com/resize80/bb2286fd4a33d44e1af7c7e73dd03bc7.jpg

Prom is short for promenade concert,
a term which originally referred to outdoor concerts in London's pleasure gardens,
where the audience was free to stroll around while the orchestra was playing.
In fact this tradition has been revived in parks and stately homes
around the UK at promenade concerts such as the Battle Proms.

Queen Mary's Dolls' House

Among the highlights of a tourist visit to Windsor Castle is the Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, the most famous dolls’ house in the world. Built for Queen Mary by the leading British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens between 1921 and 1924, this most magical of residences is a perfect replica in miniature of an aristocratic home.

The house is filled with thousands of objects made by leading artists, designers and craftsmen, nearly all on the tiny scale of 1:12. From life below stairs to the high-society setting of the saloon and dining room, no detail was forgotten. Among the most striking features of Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House are the library, bursting with original works by the top literary names of the day, a fully stocked wine cellar with real wine in the tiny bottles and a garden created by Gertrude Jekyll. The Dolls’ House even includes electricity, running hot and cold water, working lifts and flushing lavatories.

In the adjoining display two remarkable French dolls, France and Marianne, are shown with part of their extensive wardrobe of clothes and accessories. They were presented to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth for their daughters, the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose, by the French Government during the 1938 State Visit to France. The dolls’ clothes and accessories were designed and made by the leading Parisian fashion houses, including Worth, Lanvin, Cartier, Hermès and Vuitton.

Queen Mary's Dolls' House is a doll's house built in the early 1920s, completed in 1924, for Queen Mary, the wife of King George V.

The idea for building it originally came from the Queen's cousin, Princess Marie Louise, who discussed her idea with one of the top architects of the time, Sir Edwin Lutyens, at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition of 1921. Sir Edwin agreed to construct the dolls' house and began preparations.
Princess Marie Louise had many connections in the arts and arranged for the top artists and craftsmen of the time to contribute their special abilities to the house.

As a result, the dolls' house has an amazing collection of miniature items that actually work: "There are shotguns that 'break and load' (and may even fire), monogrammed linens, ... 'electricity and lifts, a garage of cars with engines that run.'"It even has running water through its tiny pipes. It was created as a gift to Queen Mary from the people, and to serve as an historical document on how a royal family might have lived during that period in England.

It showcased the very finest and most modern goods of the period. Later the dolls' house was put on display to raise funds for the Queen's charities. It was originally exhibited at the British Empire Exhibition, 1924–1925, where more than 1.6 million people came to view it, and is now on display in Windsor Castle, at Windsor, Berkshire, England, as a tourist attraction, especially to people with an interest in miniature houses, furniture, and carpets.

It was made to a scale of 1:12 (one inch to one foot), is over three feet tall, and contains models of products of well-known companies of the time. It is remarkable for its detail and the detail of the objects within it, many of which are 1/12 replicas of items in Windsor Castle. These were either made by the companies themselves, or by specialist modelmakers, such as Twining Models of Northampton, England.

The carpets, curtains and furnishings are all copies of the real thing, and even the light fittings are working. The bathrooms are fully plumbed, with a flushable toilet and miniature lavatory paper.

In addition, well-known writers wrote special books for the house's library, which were bound in scale size by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle contributed the short story "How Watson Learned the Trick", and the ghost-story writer M. R. James wrote "The Haunted Dolls' House". Other authors included J. M. Barrie, Thomas Hardy, Rudyard Kipling and W. Somerset Maugham. (George Bernard Shaw rebuffed the princess's request for a tiny volume of his work, and Sir Edward Elgar also refused to contribute.)

Painters, including Eli Marsden Wilson, also provided miniature pictures. Even the bottles in the wine cellar were filled with the appropriate wines and spirits, and the wheels of motor vehicles were properly spoked.

Queen Mary's purchases brought media attention to specialist furnishers such as Dorothy Rogers, who created needlework miniature carpets for the house. Even viewing a high quality photo of the interior will not reveal it is in fact a collection of miniatures.

There is a hidden garden revealed only when a vast drawer is pulled out from beneath the main building. This has replicas of greenery and garden implements and follows a traditional ornamental garden theme.

Hamleys is the worlds oldest and one of the largest toy stores in the world.
Hamleys also has a reputation for having the worlds best and finest toys.

Founded by William Hamley as "Noah's Ark" in High Holborn, London, in 1760,
the store was moved to Londons prestigious Regent Street in 1881.

Its Flagship Store in London is across 7 floors with more than 50,000 toys.
Located at Nos. 188-196 Regent Street,
it is considered one of the city's major tourist attractions,
receiving around five million visitors per year.

The chain has several other outlets in the United Kingdom and others worldwide.

Ownership of the shop passed through the family,
and by the time it was operated by Hamley's grandsons in 1837,
the store had become famous,
counting royalty and nobility among its customers.

A branch at No. 200 Regent Street was opened in 1881;
the High Holborn branch was destroyed by fire in 1901
and was relocated to Nos. 86–87 High Holborn.
The Regent Street branch later expanded to Nos. 188-196.

In 1938, Queen Mary, the consort of King George V, gave Hamleys a royal warrant.
During the Second World War, the Regent Street store was bombed five times.
In 1955, Queen Elizabeth II gave the company
a second royal warrant as a "toys and sports merchant".

Hamleys was bought by the Icelandic investment company Baugur Group in 2003
but when Baugur collapsed, its stake in the toy store was taken over
by the Icelandic bank Landsbanki.
In September 2012, the French toy retailer Groupe Ludendo bought Hamleys for £60 million.

Revenue: GBP £43,000,000 (2011)

Hornby Railways is a British model railway brand
with specialist Hornby rail shops in the UK stocking this classic and enchanting childrens toy,
which is popular with both children, and adult enthusiasts who collect
model railway pieces for their layouts and collection.

Its roots date back to 1901, when founder Frank Hornby
received a patent for his Meccano construction toy.

The first clockwork train was produced in 1920.
In 1938, Hornby launched its first 00 gauge train.

In 1964, Hornby and Meccano were bought by their competitor, Tri-Ang,
and sold on when Tri-ang went into receivership.
Hornby Railways became independent in the 1980s.

Annual revenue: GBP £51.6 million (equivalent to US$77.2 million) (2013)

The historic British Crown Jewels are the worlds finest and most precious jewels.
The jewels are kept inside the 1000 year old Tower of London, and guarded by lots of guards, heavy glass, CCTV, etc.

The Crown Jewels must take a secret journey in an unmarked box
when they are transported from the Tower to be worn by the Monarch,
who wears the crown jewels on special public occasions.

Only 1 person is authorised to handle the Crown Jewels.

The public can visit and see the Crown Jewels in London.

3. The most retarded, least common denominator sport in the world, beloved by ethnics and street brawlers.

The worlds most elite, formidable, oldest, and most highly-trained special forces
are the British SAS - who are second-to-none.
Special forces around the world base themselves on the elite British SAS.
Few are tough enough to pass the selection entry techniques to be in the British SAS and SBS.

The German government once called the UK government for assistance
after a German aeroplane was hijacked by terrorists from Latin America,
who were all wearing t-shirts with Che Guevara on them,
who held German tourists who were flying back from their holiday in Majorca
as hostages on the plane.
The terrorists had poured flammable liquids over the passengers,
(including German beauty queens and babies and small children who were on board the plane.)

2 British SAS men were sent to Germany to intervene,
and they managed to get into the plane and shot all the terrorists dead,
and saved the hostages lives.

The SAS have to be able to fall out of the sky and glide to earth from very high altitudes,
as well as being able to perform low-drop parachuting skills too, abseil down buildings,
be able to operate a range of guns,
stay holed-up underground for weeks in deserts, gather intelligence of areas and operations,
and survive the torture test techniques, etc,
before they are selected to be in the SAS,
since the SAS doesn't accept recruits.

The Eden Project, Cornwall

The Eden Project (Cornish: Edenva) is a visitor attraction in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom.
Inside the artificial biodomes are plants that are collected from all around the world.
The project is located in a reclaimed Kaolinite pit, located 2 km (1.2 mi) from the town of St Blazey
and 5 kilometres (3 mi) from the larger town of St Austell, Cornwall.

The complex is dominated by two huge enclosures consisting of adjoining domes that house thousands of plant species,
and each enclosure emulates a natural biome.
The domes consist of hundreds of hexagonal and pentagonal, inflated, plastic cells supported by steel frames.
The first dome simulates a tropical environment, and the second a Mediterranean environment.

The name Eden Project stems from the 1994 TV series Earth 2.

Once into the attraction, there is a meandering path with views of the two biomes,
planted landscapes, including vegetable gardens,
and sculptures that include a giant bee and towering robot created from old electrical appliances.

The Tropical Biome, covers 1.56 hectares (3.9 acres) and measures 55 metres (180 ft) high,
100 metres (328 ft) wide and 200 metres (656 ft) long.
It is used for tropical plants, such as fruiting banana trees, coffee, rubber and giant bamboo,
and is kept at a tropical temperature and moisture level.

The Mediterranean Biome covers 0.654 hectares (1.6 acres) and measures 35 metres (115 ft) high,
65 metres (213 ft) wide and 135 metres (443 ft) long.
It houses familiar warm temperate and arid plants such as olives and grape vines and various sculptures.

The Outdoor Biome (which is not covered) represents the temperate regions of the world
with plants such as tea, lavender, hops, hemp and sunflowers.

The domes provide diverse growing conditions, and many plants are on display.

The Eden Project includes environmental education
focusing on the interdependence of plants and people;
plants are labelled with their medicinal uses.

The massive amounts of water required to create the humid conditions of the Tropical Biome,
and to serve the toilet facilities, are all sanitised rain water
that would otherwise collect at the bottom of the quarry.

The only mains water used is for hand washing and for cooking.

The complex also uses Green Tariff Electricity – the energy comes from one
of the many wind turbines in Cornwall, which were among the first in Europe.

Controversially, one of the companies the Eden Project currently partners
with is the British mining company Rio Tinto Group.

In December 2010 the Eden Project received permission to build a geothermal
electricity plant which will generate approx 4MWe,
enough to supply Eden and about 5000 households.

that owned the site and constructed the building).
They cost £25,000 to create and visitors were charged 1 shilling to enter.

♡ Money raised was donated to local hospitals and £120,000
was raised during the next 30 years.

is a roof garden covering 6,000 m² (1.5 acres
on top of the former Derry and Toms building
on Kensington High Street, in central London,
in The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

They have for a long time been the largest roof garden in Europe,
but was surpassed by the roof garden

Beaulieu is a village set in the heart of the New Forest, in the southern English county of Hampshire.
Beaulieu Palace House is a 13th-century house owned by Lord Montagu
and the surrounding British National Motor Museum (originally the Montagu Motor Museum.)

http://i.picasion.com/resize80/1e65e2d8ba08a6f9e4a4ae18c3fa3675.jpg

Beaulieu Palace House was originally built in the 13th century as the gatehouse of Beaulieu Abbey.
Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries,
the estate was purchased by Sir Thomas Wriothesley, later 1st Earl of Southampton, in 1538.
The house passed through marriage into the Montagu family
and is still owned by his the 1st earl's descendant,
Edward Douglas-Scott-Montagu, 3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu.

The house was extended in the 16th century, and again in the 19th century,
and is today a fine example of a Gothic country house.
The house overlooks Beaulieu River and is surrounded by lawns and walkways.
The inside of the house has been kept in a Victorian style.

Although still home to the current Lord and Lady Montagu,
parts of the house and gardens are open daily to the public.
It is a member of the Treasure Houses of England consortium.

Edward John Barrington Douglas-Scott-Montagu, 3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu
(born 20 October 1926) is a British Conservative politician well known in Britain
for founding the National Motor Museum,
Lord Montagu gained an interest in motoring from his father —
who had commissioned the original "Spirit of Ecstasy" mascot for his Rolls-Royce —
and with his family collection of historic cars this led him to open
the National Motor Museum in the grounds of his stately home,
Palace House, Beaulieu, Hampshire in 1952.

The Finest Fruits and Vegetables
are Grown In The Gardens of Highgrove.

His Royal Highness and the future King Charles
is known for publicly speaking out against the 'monstrosities of modern tall buildings'
and urging architects to create more classic architecture,
but the Prince is also known for his very strong views
and public speeches warning against genetically modified foods.
His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales,
has called GM foods as 'frankenstein foods'
and has accused scientists of 'playing god with nature.'

The future King created his own organic garden,
where the worlds most natural fruits and vegetables are grown,
and only natural methods of pesticides are used,
and where virtually extinct
varieties of fruits and vegetables are grown,
and sold from his garden at Highgrove
in foods to the public
with the profits going to charity.

The Prince, who is a passionate farmer,
and dedicated to studying botany, plants, and agriculture,
has opened his organic gardens to the public for guided tours.

He is also the head of many organisations,
such as his charitable Princes Trust
to help young people starting their own business
with charitable grants,
and a patron of the Royal Kew Botanic Gardens.

http://i.picasion.com/pic80/4d86015fc4fa817d85edb50fd19c8fe2.gif

Over 30 years in the making, the organic gardens at Highgrove
are some of the most creatively inspiring and innovative in the United Kingdom.
HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall open the gardens to visitors
on selected dates between April and October each year.

The Prince’s expert guides offer two-hour tours
through the extraordinary series of gardens including The Stumpery,
the stunning Wildflower Meadow and the impressive Kitchen Garden.
Each a highly personal and inspiring reflection
of the interests and enthusiasms of His Royal Highness.

After your tour there will be time to take refreshments in the peaceful ambience
of the Orchard Restaurant and visit the Estate shop.

Individual Garden Tours, Group Garden Tours and Champagne Tea Garden Tours
are available to the public around His Royal Highness, Prince Charles Highgrove Estate.
http://www.highgrovegardens.com/garden-tours.html

All profits from garden tours, The Orchard Restaurant and Highgrove Shop
are donated to The Prince of Wales's Charitable Foundation

The Gardens at Highgrove embody HRH The Prince of Wales’s
environmental philosophy:

"it is better to work with nature than against it"

Since 1980 when The Prince of Wales first arrived at Highgrove,
His Royal Highness has devoted much energy
to transforming the gardens around the house.

With the help and advice of notable individuals
and the dedicated assistance of the garden staff,
what was once a somewhat bleak landscape is now
one of the most creatively inspired gardens of today.

A series of interlinked areas,
each with their own character and purpose,
weave magically around the garden,
with the house always visible in the distance.

For the last 25 years the gardens and surrounding land
have been managed to the organic and sustainable principles
that His Royal Highness has for so long championed.

A specially-built reed bed sewage system is used
for all the waste water from the house and the Orchard Room.

The gardens have been developed to be as self-sufficient as possible
with all green waste recycled for use in the gardens
as mulching material or as compost.

Natural predators are encouraged for pest control and only natural fertilizers are used.

His Royal Highness desperately wanted to protect and enhance
our native flora and fauna which have been in serious decline
due to modern farming methods.

http://i.picasion.com/resize80/cc3f129696b20242bb6523bd6e980d3c.jpg
The Highgrove Meadow

On the advice of Miriam Rothschild,
one of the country’s leading advocates of biodiversity,
The Prince re-created a lost habitat by re-establishing a wild flower meadow.

The meadow now boasts over 30 different varieties of native plants
including ox-eye daisies, yellow rattle, common spotted orchid,
meadow crane’s bill and ragged robin,
creating a rich tapestry of colour and diversity.

The gardens are also home to part of the national collection of Beech trees
and large leaved Hostas which His Royal Highness maintains
on behalf of Plant Heritage/NCCPG, of which The Prince is Patron.

This organisation conserves the diversity of our plant heritage
through its national collections.

http://i.picasion.com/resize80/7f40cf8f0a9c5c2ab68d96708feef123.jpg
The Kitchen Garden

Vegetables loved by His Royal Highness such as Charlotte potatoes,
spring cabbage, brussels sprouts and carrots
are grown in the Kitchen Garden,
including rare and endangered varieties
that are vital in terms of biodiversity.

A wide variety of apples are grown,
both next to the Orchard Room and the Kitchen Garden,
including Nonpareil, Golden Knob, Cornish Aromatic and Lady’s Delight.
There are also examples of some very rare cooking apples;
varieties which are now virtually extinct.

Wildlife thrives in this environment and is furthermore encouraged;
from English song birds like the Chiffchaff, Dunnock and Song Thrush
to dragonflies, butterflies, beetles, newts and rare bumble bees;
all are part of the virtuous circle of nature at Highgrove.

His Royal Highness is proud of his garden and, since the early 1980s,
has regularly invited various groups to visit.

It is now possible to book tickets on an individual or group basis.

His Royal Highness is proud of his garden
which is open for visitors.

[I][FONT=Book Antiqua][COLOR="#FF0000"][SIZE=3]London has two mayors;
the London Mayor and the Lord Mayor for the City of London.

The Lord Mayor rides in his own Golden Coach
which is pulled by 6 horses and kept inside the Museum of London
when he's not riding in his carriage.

Everything awesome about the UK is in the past, most of it the distant past.

I especially love your first choices.

1. Objectification of white women LOL
2. Ethnic restaurants that are nothing to do with UK (and is mostly shit that only peasant minded retards think is good food)
3. The most retarded, least common denominator sport in the world, beloved by ethnics and street brawlers.
4. A bunch of horrible modern architecture like stdiums and concert halls

LOL

^ Rude American with no idea about other peoples cultures..

Why should a lingerie store be objectifying females (of any colour) who choose to buy nice lingerie for themselves?

I didn't make this thread, the title, nor the order of the first posts. My posts were moved here from another thread by a mod.

Diversity is one of the things I absolutely love about London. And it's so cosmopolitan. There's 70 different types of world cuisine to choose from in London, so much choice of salads and fruits and vegetables. You're so boring. Have you ever tried Lebanese, Thai, Italian, Greek, Spanish, French, Argentine, Japanese, Russian dishes... I have.

The architecture is so diverse. I love both modern and ancient. Look at Shard. I made videos about that over on YT along with loads of other London vids on YT. Gherkin is another intelligent modern work of art by the one and only Sir Norman Foster. There's too much to describe tho.

There's so much you don't understand or know. I'm happy to live in England for many reasons, so why are you here moaning?

Have you even been to the V&A, for instance? Kew? Natural History Museum to see the dinosaurs?

I've never been to the U.K but i've always been interested in visiting. Maybe I'll go there one day when I'm older and i've saved up enough cash. I've always thought I was born on the wrong side of the world. I should have been born in the U.K. instead of the U.S. A lot of the rock, alternative bands that I like are based in the United Kingdom.

I like the music, architecture,English accents, culture and the weather. Not too hot Not too cold. I think the U.K.'s weather suits me more than the weather I'm use to in the Midwestern United States. I would rather live somewhere that has a mild, pleasant Oceanic climate than a place that has a Humid Continental climate. The United Kingdom isnt the only Angloish place I want to go to. I also want to visit Australia,Tasmania and New Zealand.

Why didn't you go to the V&A? Regents Park open-air theatre, the Royal Opera House, Highgate village, etc? Clueless idiot. Which art exhibits did you visit? We have undersea trains, advanced flood barriers, the London Eye, eco-skyscrapers, the worlds largest collection of living plants from all over the world with tree bridges, over 200 museums and galleries (free entry), sky cable cars over the Thames, loads of things which earned London the title of the global capital of the 21st century by an influential NY magazine which stated London's culinary and financial benefits now tower over NY. It's been voted as the 2nd best student city in the world by QS, and has the UK has 4 of the worlds top 10 universities. Which musicals and stores did you visit? There's more flagship stores in London than any other city in the world. Which parks did you go to? The only problem with London is it's one of the most expensive cities on the planet to live in, but it's not just famous supermodels and A-list film stars who live here, Sir Richard Branson, etc, (they've seen the world and can live anywhere they choose)... it's a city with the best music studios (Abbey Road) and too much to mention. Did you go to see the superyacht shows here and the supercar shows over in Chelsea?

My current area of Little Venice in Maida Vale. I've lived in several London boroughs. I loved living close to the Angel in Islington and miss that side sometimes, but I can't complain about my current area and everything I need is close to me here and my neighbours are lovely.

There's a lovely theatre bar closeby with excellent food in there, a bridge cafe, boat cafe, floating boat markets, opera singers on the canal in the summer, waterside restaurants, lots of houseboats along the canals, a boat cafe, boat buses that travel to Regents Park and the famous London Zoo and open air theatre there, but there's also the Paddington basin and all the new apartments, state-of-the-art-gym, hotel, very stylish bars and restaurants, and facilities which were placed there which is very close to Lil Venice too. It's only a few mins direct tube into central London.

nice thread English Rose

I didn't make it (a mod moved posts here and gave it the title)... but it's got flies dropping their bacteria on it. I'm gonna ask for it to be deleted, I've not even posted all the best pics yet, but cheers anyway. Do you think I should keep it up just to show others what I mean about rude americans, etc,...it's kind of funny tho. cos of the first post being a VS store and I never put that there. :D

This store is very popular in Camden, I forget how many people visit the markets and venues around there each weekend now, but it's a lot of people.

❀ Located along fashionable Kensington High Street in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, in south west of Central London, the Kensington Sky Gardens features an open-air cinema, clubs, restaurant with pianist, live music, barbeques, DJ's, parties, events, dance floor, Spanish garden, fountains, vine-covered walkways and Chusan palms; a Tudor English style garden, characterised by its archways, secret corners and hanging wisteria. Roses, lilies and lavender contribute to the rich summer scent to the garden; an English woodland garden, with over 100 species of trees, a stream, and a garden pond that is the home to pintail ducks and flamingos.

✿ There are over 30 different species of trees in the woodland garden, including trees from the original planting over sixty years ago, despite having only a metre of soil in which to grow. Although they are on a rooftop, the trees were made the subject of tree preservation orders in 1976.

❀ History of the Kensington Roof Gardens
Derry and Toms department store was opened in Kensington in 1933. The gardens were laid out between 1936 and 1938 by Ralph Hancock, a landscape architect, on the instructions of Trevor Bowen (then vice-president of Barkers, the department store giant that owned the site and constructed the building). They cost £25,000 to create and visitors were charged 1 shilling to enter.

♡ Money raised was donated to local hospitals and £120,000 was raised during the next 30 years.

✿ The Roof Gardens (formerly known as Derry and Toms Roof Gardens and Kensington Roof Gardens) is a roof garden covering 6,000 m² (1.5 acres) on top of the former Derry and Toms building on Kensington High Street, in central London, in The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. They have for a long time been the largest roof garden in Europe, but was surpassed by the roof garden on the shopping mall Emporia in Sweden in 2012.

❀ The Roof Gardens have been rented from their owners by Sir Richard Branson since 1981, and are part of Virgin Limited Edition - the luxury portfolio of Virgin Hotels Group Ltd.

London has the highest concentration of higher education and royal academies in Europe,
but London dropped down from 1st best student city to being rated as the 2nd best city in the world for students by QS International Student Guide,
due to the high cost to live and study in London, so the 1st place went to the city of Paris.
London has loads of facilities for students with the 200 museums and galleries, etc.

Fucking OP gave me a fucking seizure. What the fuck? Tone down the red.

I imagine the UK as a scene from Clockwork Orange.

The unrealistic part, in this scene, was that the underpass is clean. The alky was realistic, but there was no look of piss everywhere.

Wembley and O2 arena, they always left inside me a special impression ever since I was a child and I was learning foreign languages, it felt nice during late noons to merge myself into their atmosphere during my study breaks of the younger me.

I have noticed that the intellectual development and tolerance present in UK is represented entirely by the British posters, who compose a crucial part of this community.

In defence of food, you can go to Pinto on Lothian Road, or find good Chinese or Indian Take-a-ways. Can go find a nice American style place called Burger in Fountainbridge. ;)

Problem with food in england is similar to food in some other places, actual ingredients and portion sizes suck. You pay 300 euros for a nice restaurant meal and you get some beef medallions and you can tell they cut it out of a plastic wrapper and the beef comes from halfway around the world. May as well have gone shopping at costco and made it yourself, except you can't even get good ingredients in the grocery store either I bet. I guess the Irish and Scottish beef all goes to brussels. Or do you have to pay even more than that to get something decent?

When english people move here they are amazed at the portion size and that you can get meat that isn't shit. It's like when canadians come here, a lot of them have unjokingly told me that Taco Bell is good mexican food LOL. Taco bell is a fast food place, and it's even worse than Mc Donalds as far as I am concerned, and at Mc Donalds everything is completely tasteless.

NYC has some super fancy restaurants that are good but it's all expensive as hell. Vancouver is almost as good but a lot cheaper. In most of USA you can get good local food for not too much money and some really good food in any decent sized city. Seems like everything in europe is overrated at best, when it comes to food. I love the cheeses from spain though, maybe the food is good there.
