Gaude Mater Polonia (Rejoice, oh Mother Poland) was probably the most popular medieval Polish hymn, written in the 13th-14th century in memory of saint Stanisław Szczepanowski, bishop of Cracow. I like the Spanish anthem, "March Real." A simple but elegant one.

South America has several good anthems.

English-speaking countries, overall, have disappointing anthems, though there are good alternates ("Rule Britannia" beats the actual anthem by far, and the U.S. has a lot of great patriotic songs that would make better anthems). Then again, if you fight for a country, its anthem will mean so much -even if its tune is an old drinking song.
