How to trace my Bohemian family history?

All I know is the name of my German-Bohemian ancestor. I do not know where in Bohemia he came from and I think it is impossible to know. I know the year he was born too but that's it. Is there any way to trace this line further? I try looking for records on the internet, and there are records, but there is no way of knowing whether it's him or just another person with his name. I think he got married after he immigrated, even though his wife was also German-Bohemian, I'm not sure about that.

I don't know what time period you're dealing with here, but records of family members can be helpful. For example, the birthplace of one of my ancestors was listed on his daughter's birth record. Some list the province or even the city, rather than just the country.

Also, you've probably looked at immigration records. But if you can narrow those down to the correct one, that's probably the best source for the information you're looking for.

Familysearch.org has digitized some church records from Bohemia, but not much of the records there are online at all. Doing genealogy in Czech Republic and Germany can still involve going to churches and actually reading old record books. If they exist. If it's a common name, it's hard to know if it's the right person.

Your best bet it to try to find any information that lists a place of birth. Death certificates, obituaries, marriage records. If any siblings of your ancestor also emigrated could also have the information. If you can't find anything, then see where others in the area your ancestor initially moved to are from. People tended to immigrate to a place they knew someone. That might not give you definite proof, but a place to start.
