The best advice I think is to get your father or your closest male relative in his line to get tested: www.23andMe.com will also analyze his Y- DNA and his MtDNA.

I'm not very good either, but I think the only way you can detect this is by a DNA test.

Most people in here does it by a company called 23andme (https://www.23andme.com/). I don't think they ship to Brazil, though.

I asked this same question a while ago. They said your father should get tested, or it can also be your brother or uncle or basically any male that comes from the same line than your father.
PS: Im like you and trying to convince my uncle to get tested :D

Preferably, you need to have a sample from a male relative of your direct paternal line. This can be the son of your father's brother, for instance. Failing that, you can obtain some information about your paternal ancestry through autosomal analysis. Most testing services, including Ancestry, will do such an autosomal analysis.
