A new summer record temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius was recorded at Puumala in southern Savo on Monday. At Evo in the municipality of Lammi near Hämeenlinna on Monday, the mercury reached 33.2 degrees. The heat wave will continue at least this week.

Many places in Southern Finland have been scorched by temperatures exceeding 30 degrees. Temperatures over 25 degrees have been recorded as far north as Oulu.

This summer’s previous record temperature was measured last Thursday when the thermometer hit 32.8 degrees in Puumala.

Finland’s all time highest temperature dates back to 1914 when 35.9 degrees was recorded in Turku. Temperatures recorded on Monday were the highest measured in 50 years.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute forecasts the current heat wave will continue at least this week and probably beyond.

Just watched the news, and there's no mention of that ... yet. I'm sure that'll eventually happen.

It's even worse in central and southern Europe, mind you.

There was a heat record for the 12th of July today, in Tallinn. The last record, 31C, was from 1885. The temperature today was 31.6C.

I hate this hot weather, 21C would be a nice summer temperature.

When I was in Germany it was 110F, in India 120F. Here in Boston 100F. F**CK THIS HEAT!!! It is oppressive and crushes the spirit.

I'm not complaining, though. I just have to think of the weather during the rest of the 3/4 of the year and how this is infinitely better. :D

Call me a weirdo, but I'd prefer -30C over +30C any day. I say this to people even in the middle of winter.

Lol @ Americans complaining about the heat, have you ever heard of air conditioning?

As someone who wears wool socks and longjohns to bed whatever the season, but refuses to wear underwear under my jeans, equally regardless of the time of year, I would agree. ;)

It's -20c in McMurdo, I think that's pretty warm.

+1 :thumb001:

Nordeuropids aren't built for +30C.

Around here, temps of over 30C/90F are quite rare and not many people have air conditioning. The ability to heat one's house is much more important and long lasting in seasonal duration than is cooling.

We don't have AC but we do have this 100 yards below the house in the woods--our little cooling pool in a lovely forest brook:

Lol @ Americans
You're an American. :coffee: You can't put an A/C dome over the whole city. :rolleyes2:

It went even up to +33C in the afternoon. It's cooler now but it's way too hot to sleep.

But surely not tonight...?

I guess I might skip the wool socks. :p

I actually contemplated digging my ex's tent out of the cellar last night and sleeping in the yard. Probably would have done it too but then I realised it's no longer there.
