Now well inland, Tropical Storm Bill continues to weaken, and is likely to become a depression during the next 12 hours as it moves north from Victoria toward Austin and then Fort Worth.

Although there have been some wind gusts near 60 mph reported in the vicinity of Matagorda Bay, the primary threat from this storm remains inland flooding and isolated tornadoes.

At this time the heaviest storms have pulled back toward the core of Bill, which is between Victoria and El Campo, moving to the north-northwest. Accordingly, flash flood warning is in effect for the areas below until 10:45 p.m. CT.

Bill poses a significant flooding threat for areas to the immediate west of Harris County, especially along and west of a line from El Campo to Brenham to College Station. These storms are capable of producing 2 inches per hour, and therefore

could lead to flash flooding throughout the night.

Expect the warning area shown above to migrate northward along with Bill tonight.

Accumulations for the line of counties about 50 to 100 miles west of Houston could be as high as 5 or 10 inches of rain during the overnight hours. The area of greatest impact can be seen in the image above.

For the Houston metro area itself there are still some storms offshore with the potential to rotate into the city over night, particularly a well organized cluster noted below.

It’s far from certain this will happen; but it’s also possible we’ll pick up a couple more more quick inches of rain tonight
