In October 2010, Petrenko was named the next Generalmusikdirektor of the Bavarian State Opera, as of 2013.[9] On 22 June 2015 Petrenko was announced as the Chief Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, effective August 2018, succeeding Simon Rattle.
