Today I've found out that, unlike previously announced, the Spanish actress of partial Hungaro-Romanian descent Elsa Pataky will finally not be the Viking princess Sigrid in the Spanish film about the hero Captain Thunder (Capitán Trueno) that is about to be filmed.

The role has been asigned to the Ukrainian actress working in Spain, Natasha Yarovenko. I almost prefer it, even if her accent is too Slavic to sound Nordic. :p

Btw, Spaniards may see this hero as a very Spanish one, but the fact is that he was a Catalan noble from the northern Empordan region and, being born around 1162, he just can't be Spanish. What many think is a Spanish flag in his shield is rather inspired in the flag/coat of the Catalan County of Empurias, which has only three red stripes instead of the four Catalan stripes.

Captain Thunder (El Capitán Trueno) was the hero of a series of Spanish comic books, created in 1956 by the writer Víctor Mora and illustrated mainly by Miguel Ambrosio Zaragoza (Ambrós). The comics were published continuously between 1956 and 1968, eventually becoming the most popular Spanish hero comic of all times: at its height it sold more than 170,000 copies every week. Mora found his inspiration in Hal Foster's Prince Valiant.
El Capitán Trueno is a 12th-century knight-errant from the times of the Third Crusade, assisted by his faithful companions the cunning adolescent Crispín and the huge gourmandizer Goliath. His eternal dame is Sigrid of Thule, an energetic Viking princess who takes part in many of the adventures of the trio. In successive books, Capitán Trueno and his friends travel the whole world enforcing justice and freedom against bullies and tyrants, never using more violence than necessary.
Portions of the comic books have also been published in several Latin American countries, Italy (as Capitan Tuono), Greece, Portugal and France. The series suffered some limited censorship during the dictatorship. Censors were concerned, for example, that Capitán Trueno and Sigrid were traveling around the world unburdened by matrimonial ties.
Apparently the movie has a more than two-year delay for lack of funding, lol. I'm afraid this means low-budget effects, and who knows if the change of Pataky for Yarovenko is also because of this. If it only got to look visually like Alatriste, that'd be ok for me, tho.
