If you're in the UK and you've got a 3 Network sim then you probably know you can make Skype calls from your handset (provided it has 3's Skype client installed on it) but that it only allows you to dial International aka non-UK numbers.

Here's a workaround.

If you want to dial UK numbers from it you can do this by rerouting the call through Skype on your home PC. Of course this means your PC needs to be running, Skype needs to be running on it and it needs to be set up correctly.

Once all these conditions are met you can login your 3 phone's Skype client, "call" your PC and have the PC reroute the call (or sms) to wherever you're calling to.

UK Rates as of 22 Jul 2010:

3 Mobile PAYG ----> UK Mobile = 25p / min
3 Mobile PAYG ----> UK Landline = 25p / min

Skype ----> UK Mobile = 16.6p / min
Skype ----> UK Landline = 1.4p / min

Obviously the saving to UK landlines via Skype is massive compared with 3's rates.

I guess it's possible to use this same mechanism in other countries where 3 Network are present and offer Skype as a service. A partial list of potential countries include Austria, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, Australia, Sweden and some others.

In my case I make use of a debranded Nokia phone with 3's client installed. Because the phone is debranded and not officially supported I couldn't download the client from 3's website and obtained a copy elsewhere. Use at own risk. :thumb001:
