Hi all,

I have a quick question for those of you more knowledgeable about Italian and Balkan DNA than myself. In quite a number of oracles in different calculators like the K13 and V2 K15, I get quite a bit of Tuscan/Italian variants in the oracles. Can this, for whatever reason, act as a type of proxy for Balkan ancestry (i.e. Croatian)? Yes, I know its possible I have very distant Italian ancestry, however my Croatian tree is quite extensive and there are no traces of it. I didn't think Italians had similar genetics to Balkan people, however I suppose it depends on the country and past history (migration and rulers) i.e. Croatia more so because of it being on the coast. I know it may be appearing to represent my minority Jewish ancestry.

I guess similar ratio of the various components but nothing else.

Croatia is just next to Italy and South Italians overlap with Ashkenazi Jews. so it's not really a Balkan-Italian sharing. it's because of your own genetic origin

It depends on what you mean with Balkan. Do you mean Greek/Albanian? Bulgarian/Romanian? Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian?

As mentioned in the original post, Croatian.

Greeks and Albanians are genetically similar to central and southern Italians; other Balkanites are more distant due to having more NE European ancestry.
