View Full Version : Iraqi Fans Attack IFK Gothenburg's U16s After Their Side Are Beaten At The Gothia Cup

Football violence is deplorable at the best of times, but seeing violence at an under-16 match is truly despicable.

The 2010 Gothia Cup is currently being held in Sweden, being an annual tournament for the youth teams from all corners of the world.

Friday night saw local outfit IFK Gothenburg beat Iraqi side Al Madina 1-0, but the story of the match came after the full-time whistle when hundreds of Iraqi fans stormed the pitch and aggressively charged at the Swedish teenagers.

TV cameras caught footage of one IFK teenager being thrown to the ground once he'd been caught by the masses, while local news reports also touted rumors that stones were thrown at the youngsters too. That said, fortunately no players were too badly injured and no-one needed to be taken to hospital following the riot.
