View Full Version : Guess Haplogroups Based on One's Look

This should be an interesting excercise.

Guess someone's haplogroups (keeping in mind of course this is all in good fun, but an educated guess, anyway) based on looks.

I'll start with me, I suppose.

Just a wild guess im not really good with these sorts of things, im still learning but id say I1, im completely disregarding what your Y-DNA says. What about me?

Lol...I suppose I forgot that I have my haplogroups listed on my profile. Ah well. Ty for the comment.

Actually, I might guess R1a for you?

R1A

Correct, but are you cheating? Haha.

I Probably should have taken that data off my profile.

I think my mtdna is the more surprising of the two. R1a is common in the eastern half of Europe (with of course some occurrence in the west also)...but mama's mama?

That's funny, I didn't see that it was on your profile, but I may have seen it before and I would unconsciously have remembered it.

Mine also.

Do we think it's harder to guess mtdna in males?

I would definitely say so.

It's not really possible to guess the haplogroup of somebody just by looking at him, if you have his geographical information you could guess it but it will be based only on luck.

Your Y-DNA haplogroup and mtDNA haplogroup have nothing to do with your phenotype but this is a fun thread nonetheless haha. :)

people with mtdna hg U/UK almost always have:
shorter forearms;
much stronger legs (with flatter tibial bones just like neanderthals);
wider nasal septum/smaller nostrils.

also, the most pale women have mtdna haplogroup K (no female members of other haplogroups can get quite as light as some members of mtDNA hg U/UK, A, and D are).

red hair occurs more frequently in people with mtdna haplogroup K than those with any other haplogroup.

O negative blood type is more common in hg K than in all other mtdna hgs.

mtdna hgs U/K, A, and D is correlated with high right hand 2d4d ratios (about 7-8% higher than all the other groups on average; I have never seen a woman with mtDNA hg U/UK whose right hand 2d4d ratio was less than .99).

So those with haplogroup K are certainly the best looking (A, D, and all the other clades of U as well as K are more likely to be mentally quick than members of other mtdna haplogroups); they are certainly the furthest from chimpanzees in every way which also means that it is probable that haplogroups A, D, and U/UK are of neanderthal origin.

As for me, I belong to mtdna hg H and I hate myself for it. although I've never had it formally tested, there are two ways I will describe here and now as to how I arrived at my conclusion:

1) my mom, her sister, and their late mother looked quite like Queen victoria and QEII. There is also a large resemblance between Christopher Hitchens and QEII (look at their eyes). Hitchens' nose is also VERY similar to Queen Victoria's as well as that on the face of my mom's sister.

2) hg H is strongly correlated to Judging (as opposed to Perceiving although perhaps Hitchens and Copernicus both had mtdna hg H and were probable ENTPs) and as such have lower visual-spatial intelligence (I imagine Copernicus is an exception); on the opposite hand, I can safely say that fewer than 5% of women belonging to mtDNA hg U/UK, A, or D are Judging. Queen Victoria was an STJ. My grandmother was ISTJ. Warren Buffet, QEII, one of my 2 older brothers, my grandmother's 2 daughters, and 2 of my grandmother's 3 sons are STJ (my grandmother's youngest and the only one of the five i really love is an ESFP like my grandfather; the latter had haplogroup U5a). My grandmother's only sibling is an ESTJ; their mother was an ISTJ and it sounds like their father was an ESFP (he was said to be pretty wreckless; he died before my great uncle was born). My oldest brother is an ENTJ (despite being known as "Rationals", NTJs aren't much smarter than STJs). My dad is U5a, U5b, or K; I can tell that he's an INFJ (his mother was an ENFP, his older brother was an ISFP, and his oldest brother is an ESFP; their father was an ISTJ).

Anyway, the strength and masculinity of my matrilineal genes has been a serious issue not only for me; it also fosters dependence and impedes the advancement of art, science, and technology: (
