How eloquently this site conceals the hundskit, daily strikes and molotov coctails...:D

Nevertheless, it is an interesting tour guide for anyone that would like to visit, and/or simply get some info on the city of Athens ;)

I've never been to Athens, but I'd love to go and stay out of the tourist traps - see how the locals live.

I have been writing an informal and rather 'absinthe-sque' tourist guide to Athens, but it is yet to be finished. :D

Should anyone ever decide to visit, however, rest assured that I can give you the best tips and do my best to show you around. Or you can ask Fortis in Arduis to get the 'anglo' point of view :p

I'll be in Greece in the summer at my Aunties villa!

Are the anarchists still rioting in Athens?

I was supposed to visit Athens last year, but financial problems came up and I was forced to spend my summer working.. But I plan on following through with this soon. I've got a few questions about Hellas, if you'd be so kind;

1: What are the best places to go? I'm not really interested in big cities of any country, I prefer the rural areas.

2: Is there ANY wilderness there? Any places to hike, camp, etc?

That's right, it's 'dog shit' in swedish :D The pride and joy of athenian sidewalks, 'hundskit' can be used both literally and metaphorically. :D

Many interesting places to go, for all kinds of tastes :) Tell me, what kind of landscape are you most interested in? Seaside or mountainside?

Also, what time of the year? It would help me make suggestions.

There's plenty of wilderness in the countryside, you just have to know where you're going. There's organized camping sites also. I think free camping is supposed to be forbidden in most places, but hey, in Greece you can get away with almost anything :p

I'm very interested in the mountains. And the time of year doesn't really matter too much, I like all kinds of weather. But do you get decent snowfall up in the mountains during winter? I like it a bit cooler.

If at all possible I'd like to avoid designated camping spots, they just kinda ruin the experience for me. I don't mind taking a little risk ;) the more remote the better.

Thanks!

Yes, there are magnificent mountains and they get a lot of snow during the winter time.

Here are some pics from the most recent trip of mine to Mt. Olympus :lightbul:

And there are other interesting mountainsides as well. Good thing you're interested in them, most tourists are interested in sandy beaches and hot weather :thumbs up

Am I right in assuming that midwinter is the best time to visit Greece? Each winter I consider a trip there and each winter it falls through. One of these years I will make it. I have no interest in beaches as my skin reflects my Irish heritage. I would design my itinerary around the ancient historic sites.

Very beautiful pictures, Absinthe. Thank you for sharing. Mt. Olympus is my main target in Greece, so I'm very happy to see those photos ;).
