Culture:
Cuban culture is influenced by its melting pot of cultures, primarily those of Spain and Africa. After the 1959 revolution, the government started a national literacy campaign, offered free education to all and established rigorous sports, ballet and music programs.[237]

Internet in Cuba has some of the lowest penetration rates in the Western hemisphere, and all content is subject to review by the Department of Revolutionary Orientation.[238] ETECSA operates 118 cybercafes in the country.[238] The government of Cuba provides an online encyclopedia website called EcuRed that operates in a "wiki" format.[239] Internet access is limited.[240] The sale of computer equipment is strictly regulated. Internet access is controlled, and e-mail is closely monitored.

Cuisine:
Cuban cuisine is a fusion of Spanish and Caribbean cuisines. Cuban recipes share spices and techniques with Spanish cooking, with some Caribbean influence in spice and flavor. Food rationing, which has been the norm in Cuba for the last four decades, restricts the common availability of these dishes.[246] The traditional Cuban meal is not served in courses; all food items are served at the same time.

The typical meal could consist of plantains, black beans and rice, ropa vieja (shredded beef), Cuban bread, pork with onions, and tropical fruits. Black beans and rice, referred to as Moros y Cristianos (or moros for short), and plantains are staples of the Cuban diet. Many of the meat dishes are cooked slowly with light sauces. Garlic, cumin, oregano, and bay leaves are the dominant spices.

Music:
The music of Cuba, including its instruments, performance and dance, comprises a large set of unique traditions influenced mostly by west African and European (especially Spanish) music.[1] Due to the syncretic nature of most of its genres, Cuban music is often considered one of the richest and most influential regional musics of the world. For instance, the son cubano merges an adapted Spanish guitar (tres), melody, harmony, and lyrical traditions with Afro-Cuban percussion and rhythms. Almost nothing remains of the original native traditions, since the native population was exterminated in the 16th century.

Since the 19th century Cuban music has been hugely popular and influential throughout the world. It has been perhaps the most popular form of regional music since the introduction of recording technology. Cuban music has contributed to the development of a wide variety of genre and musical styles around the globe, most notably in Latin America, the Caribbean, West Africa and Europe. Examples include rhumba, Afro-Cuban jazz, salsa, soukous, many West African re-adaptations of Afro-Cuban music (Orchestra Baobab, Africando), Spanish fusion genres (notably with flamenco), and a wide variety of genres in Latin America.

Ethnic Racial Composition:
* 32% White
* 39% Mulatto
* 28% Black
* 1% Chinese

Languages:
The official language of Cuba is Spanish. The accent of Cuban Spanish is largely of Canarian origin with sagnificant Andaluzian and Catalan influences. The Spanish accent varies from east to west. The Spanish of West Cuba is more European, while the East side has a bit of influences from African languages and Haitian Creole, as well as having a few more words of Indigenous origins.

Religion:
Cuba's prevailing religion is Christianity, primarily Roman Catholicism, although in some instances it is profoundly modified and influenced through syncretism. A common syncretic religion is Santería, which combined the Yoruba religion of the African slaves with Catholicism and some Native American strands; it shows similarities to Brazilian Umbanda and has been receiving a degree of official support. The Roman Catholic Church estimates that 65 percent of the population is Catholic,[2] but only 5% of that 60% attends mass regularly,[3] while independent sources estimate that as few 1.5% of the population does so.[4]

Membership in Protestant churches is estimated to be 5 percent and includes Baptists, Pentecostals, Seventh-day Adventists, Presbyterians, Anglicans, Episcopalians, Methodists, Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), and Lutherans. Other groups include the Greek Orthodox Church, the Russian Orthodox Church, Jehovah's Witnesses, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Baha'is, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons).

Entrance to the Catedral de San Cristóbal de la Habana (Cathedral of Saint Christopher of Havana)
Cuba is home to a variety of syncretic religions of largely African cultural origin. According to a US State Department report,[2] some sources estimate that as much as 80 percent of the population consults with practitioners of religions with West African roots, such as Santeria or Yoruba. Santería developed out of the traditions of the Yoruba, one of the African peoples who were imported to Cuba during the 16th through 19th centuries to work on the sugar plantations. Santería blends elements of Christianity and West African beliefs and as such made it possible for the slaves to retain their traditional beliefs while appearing to practice Catholicism. La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre (Our Lady Of Charity) is the Catholic patroness of Cuba, and is greatly revered by the Cuban people and seen as a symbol of Cuba. In Santería, she has been syncretized with the goddess Ochún. The important religious festival "La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre" is celebrated by Cubans annually on 8 September. Other religions practised are Palo Monte, and Abakuá, which have large parts of their liturgy in African languages.

Sports:
Due to historical associations with the United States, many Cubans participate in sports which are popular in North America, rather than sports traditionally demoted in other Latin American nations. Baseball is by far the most popular; other sports and pastimes include football (soccer), basketball, volleyball, and athletics. Cuba is a dominant force in amateur boxing, consistently achieving high medal tallies in international competitions.

Amid the lopsided naval conflict of the Spanish American War was a little remembered small ship action. The rare Spanish naval victory included America's first casualties due to enemy fire of the war.

I've travelled through most of Cuba and I have to say it probably has one of the largest unmixed white (in terms of appearance) populations in the Americas, despite the fact that most of the white upper and middle class left the island. A lot of working class/poor Cubans particularly in rural areas are white, which isn't really seen in most of the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean. It also has one of the largest unmixed (at least in looks) black populations, most are concentrated in urban areas.

Some rural Cubans:
