Speaking of national personifications I only know of Holger Danske.

Johnny Appleseed. This was back in the 19th century when cider was plentiful and America's #1 native alcoholic beverage. Now we have to import it from England, and the one brand from Vermont is more expensive than the imported. Irony.

It's Polonia, female personification of the Polish Kingdom.

Comte Arnau
08-10-2010, 12:54 AM
Legend has it that Otger Catalo summoned the Nine Knights of the Land to reconquer the country that had been taken by the Saracens. Otger and the nine brave lords from nine Catalan regions gathered their swords and swore before Our Lady in the Pyrenean Monastery of Ripoll, that they'd fight until death to reconquer it. The spirit of one of the knights, Count Arnau, still haunts the area...

Some Catalans would attribute later the origin of the name Catalonia to that legendary father of the land, Otger Catalo. (False, of course)

Another important historic guy, Guifré el Pilós (Wilfred the Hairy), also father of the land according to another legend, who would have created the Catalan flag while agonizing, asking the Frankish emperor to move his four fingers down on a golden shield after touching the blood of one his wounds.

Finally, although not exclusively Catalan, the legend of Saint George (Sant Jordi), the princess and the dragon, is well-known in Catalonia and celebrated every 23rd of April. He is Catalonia's patron saint, and the day is regarded as the real Lovers Day here. Consequently, Saint George and usually dragons in general can symbolize Catalonia on some occasions.

But much better quality. Woodchuck is much better than Stongbow/Bulger's. It's not even that much, you can get a 24 pack at Kappy's for around $25 or less. Also there is Hornsby's which isn't bad either.

Though truly, you can't claim to have enjoyed British Cider without chugging a 2.5 liter bottle of White Lightening, though from what I hear this product has been discontinued.

The patron saint of Germany is archangel Michael.

You can find him as statue at numerous German churches or national monuments.

In order to keep it in a separate thread.

An example: Belarus as depicted in Hetalia: Axis Powers

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_x9jc4TJDEsM/SnaLpaaM4xI/AAAAAAAABIY/u1yy7A6h4ls/s800/belarus-aph.jpg

She's actually the principal reason I watch Hetalia. Yandere girls are the funniest characters in anime. I have to admit I also find it funny that the Japanese conceive of Belarus as a psychopath obsessed with Russia. (No offence, Whiteruthenian).

http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/71175_114922523379_5306490_n.jpg

Other fans of Hetalia will appreciate this excerpt from AMVHell. Those who aren't anime fans can pretty much just ignore it. I might actually repost it in the anime group.

c2dZ2-P4kXc

Anyway, now that I've betrayed my anime fandom and no doubt made myself look like a fool, it seems appropriate to keep with the irreverent cartoon theme rather than more serious portrayals of my own country:
http://satwcomic.com/art/the-day-the-iraq-war-started.jpg

I like the concept of America being portrayed as essentially a haute bourgeois lummox. I think it rather captures our government quite well.

http://satwcomic.com/art/Bedtime-Drama-2.jpg

Also, since no one has posted this one I figure I will even though only one of them is my country:
