Boyko Borisov: Bulgaria could become average European country in the next three years

Sofia. Bulgaria could become an average European country in the next three years, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said at a press conference at the Council of Ministers, a reporter of FOCUS News Agency announced. We have a real chance next three years, Bulgaria to walk the way of an average level European state. This is what I had promised – to bring Bulgaria to the average European level. After that the other government will make it like Switzerland, the Prime Minister said.
I promised the Bulgarians - within the next three years we to construct an average of 60 km highway per year plus what is currently working on second-class and III-class roads and plus what Brussels expects of us – namely through the World Bank to work out the projects for Struma, Kresna Gorge, Black Sea, Hemus and all other road junctions, infrastructure that we care, because the World Bank gives money to the Serbs to make Belgrade - Nis - Sofia, and we must do Sofia - Dimitrovgrad, if we want to link the two highways, Borisov said.
In his words - Brussels is not a "city of evil" for countries that exceed a deficit of 3%.
The Prime Minister was categorical, that we do not say that we would violate this requirement, but under the project within two or three weeks we will indicate ways that will build from those for which we have signed contracts.
And we must make analysis of critical points - whether one-third, or two-thirds or the whole road now, this construction season and how much on the next year, Borisov said.
In his words - in Brussels we have partners. Not surprisingly, the President of the World Bank said that as a government we have friends in America, friends in Brussels, friends in Europe, I think in Russia as well, he said. Borisov said that current government has different behavior than the previous government of Bulgaria and its work is tolerated. Bulgaria has perhaps the worst infrastructure in the EU.
When we explain that we want to protect life and health of people who drive on these roads, their property and not judge us as a country in Strasbourg, that we missed so many years, he said.

I'm sure with the influx of new "cultural enrichers," the rest of Europe will be ready to meet Bulgaria halfway in their mission to become average.

One of the main contributing factors that account for Switzerland's excellent economy is because it is not part of the EU.

Considering that the vast majority of European countries are now part of the EU, there appears to be a conflict of interests facing the Bulgarians 1) they want to be like Switzerland, an atypical European country; and 2) they wish to work within the EU framework.
