View Full Version : What colour do you tan?

Just curious where Apricians are.

This pic came from a cosmetics site, but:

http://www.outlineskincare.co.uk/images/colour%20chart.jpg

I'm naturally M6 (Medium - slightly pink base)

But when I tan I will become M8 (Golden Beige) or M9 (Golden Bronze).

There is actually such a difference in my skin tone that I have different makeup for summer and winter.

M1 is my natural color and possibly M3 after a few burns. :)
I also get tiny freckles that could be M11.

M2-M3 natural skin color, and I can tan to M7.

M8. M9 if I was to really go for it.

I can't really determine what my skin colour is according to that chart. I'm very fair but not milky white. When I do tan (now being older as opposed to turning a delicious shade of cooked lobster when I was younger) my skin turns to a golden colour, but still white. Yep, golden white. People don't believe me when I tell them: "But this IS a tan!" :rolleyes2:

I guess I'm M2-M3 after a winter with no sun. I get tanned quite easily when summer comes though, getting to M8-M9 after a couple of months.
I rarely go through the "red-prawn" phase fortunately :p :D

There is actually such a difference in my skin tone that I have different makeup for summer and winter.

I'm similar. It's that classic Atlanto-Nordid complexion. My thighs, for example, are so blindingly white that the big blue veins just jump right out at you. Yet, my forearms and face are a rich golden bronze right now during the Summer. Variable is the name of the game!

Normally, I'm about an M2 and I can tan to about M7-M8 from the sun exposure I get by working in the vineyard and walking around in the sun. I have no intention of finding out how far I could go... At 30°C it's dreadful to sit inside, let alone in the sun.

M0 (transparent white) to a maximum potential of M13.

antonio
08-13-2010, 10:51 AM
At winter I'm plain white without pinkish or reddish on absence of freezing (I suppose this corresponds to M3), at summer never reach above a golden tone (M8?)...but probably I could get higher, never was so irresponsable to turn myself to black. :D

M2 is my normal skin color and it goes to M5 if i tan. But i dont do sunbathing and tanning ---- pale is better :)

I equally like my tanned version too (my features are AtlantoMediterranean enough to avoid race confusions ). But, being Sun the main aging agent, Im not much fond of it.:coffee:

I don't need to sunbathe to go dark. In saying that, though, it's only my top half that sees more of the sun. I would go to about M8 but if I was outdoors all the time I could nudge it to M9. My legs are as white as a sheet though.

It depends from the sun. I spent two weeks at Seychelles and i became M9 by default.

I never actively try to get a tan but when you get a rare good summer here or I go somewhere with a decent climate then I can get about m7 pretty easily, If I were to lay out and try to get a tan or spend some time on a nice beach for a few days then probably m8, not much higher though.

I'm normally lighter than M1 (more white, less pink), when I try to tan (which I don't do often) I burn, but my farmer/cyclist tan is Golden bronze :thumbs up.

I inherited the lightest skin color you can get. My face is very freckled & my skin is transparent where you can see my veins.

This is my arm right now, and I've been tanning 30-45 minutes a day for the last few months with little results, all that happens is I get sun burnt really bad.

M8. M9 if I was to really go for it.

The same with me. Except the only part of my body that have ever been tanned is my arms. Pitiful, I know. My mom always tan to golden bronze during summers but goes back to whitey skin during winters.

My skin colour is Very Fair and when I have tan it is Medium - slightly pink base .

I disagree, you have wax skin and wax skin =/ fair skin.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/1/8/7/4/3/5/MTS2_vindicatedmess_731483_ZooeyDeschanel.jpg

The upper left and bottom right picture look like they have wax-like skin meanwhile the upper right and bottom left clearly have fair skin.

My skin tone is a Light Neutral, but I can go to a M5 if tanning for a very long time but it quite tough to do so. Maybe it could be to do with my Breton or Normand heritage (even though I know alot of fellow French who can tan pretty go even when Lighter or Medium featured) but not sure on that one.

Natural shade, likely M-3...tan anywhere from M-7 - M-10 depending upon exposure, though my nose can get pretty close to M-11.

However, I am more on the Winter Color scale. ;)

My wife is usually a shade or two lighter than me.

I'm naturally somehow M3 (but I can be Casper, very very very fair on winter), light neutral with pinkish subtone. About tanning, pff, what a painful thing. Well I can tan as a pinkpig, which is not represented on your list..or sometimes I can turn to that ''Medium-slighty pink base'' from your list. The only time I tanned pretty cool, when I was a kid, and spent all my holiday at beach, mostly in water till my fingers and skin got wrinkled lol. Water usually helps for a nicer tan, ...so I guess that was the secret. By then I was more like red...kinda burnt but I was red hot chilli pepper.

It is properly to get tann as skin defence pigmentation allow , what means untill you "provoke" melanin and vitamin D to create a "preventive membrane" for sun accomodation ... Everything more than this is " SKIN YELLING" and warning that you torture your skin ....

my natural skin color (on my forearms and face) is about M2 - M3. My chest and upper thighs are a lot lighter. I can tan to ~M9.

My hands seem to have the highest concentrations of melanin for some reason. Could repeated exposure to high amounts of sunlight over the years cause this? My hands stay a rather tan color throughout the year, even when other parts of my body loose their tan.

My exposed areas in the winter time are usually m6/m7, my face a little lighter. If I go abroad for 2 weeks to somewhere like spain or greece I will easily go to m10.

However, if I dont go abroad then the british summer wont really do much to my skin as its not strong enough, considering that I am fairly tanned already. I am lucky to go to m8 even if I spend considerable time out in the british sun.

Using this image for comparison, I'm naturally a "N-1", but I'll go to "C-3/4" when I tan.

Also gesedna says "Im neither dark nor light like most chinese" and that i can burn but also tann.

Skin Management 4 items
Before choosing a beauty skin care product, ask how your genes look
Natural skin color
Like most Chinese people, you have a skin that is neither white nor dark. Just look at the cleansing and moisturizing to keep the skin smooth and moist, you can have a good look.
Genetic effects 63%-72% 2 references 59.67% of people are just like you

Skin moisturizing is better
In cold or windy weather, or in an area with dry air, you may feel that the skin is a bit dry and tight, but usually there is no dander.

Harder to stay
You belong to a type of skin that will hardly leave permanent visible scars. After scarring from the wound, the scar is usually pink, showing a flat or slightly concave state and becoming less and less visible over time.
Genetic effects 80% 5 references 38.88% are the same as you

May be sunburned
After prolonged exposure to the sun, your skin will usually turn black overall. When the sun is strong, redness, pain, peeling and other sunburn reactions can also occur. When you are outdoors, you need to take sun protection measures.

wow thats such a drastic change, i honestly cant get that dark without using tanning products
last time i tried doing it, i got the worst sun burn in history of man kind

>XDDD LMAO

i can tolerate standing in the scorching sun of Aruba in the summertime and around 12 to 1 PM hottest time of the day for 2 hours max, if i stay any longer in the sun and not go into the shade i will turn slightly red on the areas that had most sun. I cant burn easily lol

When I 'tan' I burn at first, after a couple days it becomes a tan. My normal skin colour is between fair and light brown I'ld say, not sure.

I dont know that. Maybe light tann. I think Im only slightly darker in summer not much. But I dont go to beach for hours.

Check my DNA Phenotyping and Skin analytics in my austrian drugstore threads, its in my signature.

1 Reference 44.87% of people are just like you

Harder to stay
You belong to a type of skin that will hardly leave permanent visible scars. After scarring from the wound, the scar is usually pink, showing a flat or slightly concave state and becoming less and less visible over time.
Genetic effects 80% 5 references 38.88% are the same as you

May be sunburned
After prolonged exposure to the sun, your skin will usually turn black overall. When the sun is strong, redness, pain, peeling and other sunburn reactions can also occur. When you are outdoors, you need to take sun protection measures.
Genetic effects 55% 3 references 97.81% of people are just like you

This says i get a light tann https://dna.frieger.com/

pictures of me in summer and winter it also depends a bit on the ligthning as i have a olive or orangish undertone and under some lightnings i look orange also in winter, but normally i look pale

so its hard to tell overall conclusion light tann

I go from skin type 1.5 to skin type 2.

Skin types are not skin tones.

Your skin type determines how well you tan, your range of skin tone.

Skin type itself does not change.

Yeah you're right. I just didn't know how else to describe myself other than "I turn from pale white to slightly less pale white", so I went with that.

My natural arm is below. After tanning it'll go more towards a light brown colour; I tan quite easily which I'm thankful for.

I used to think I tan well until I spent many hours in the sun the other day doing yard work. My forearms tanned a bit but I developed red spots all over my upper arms and face with stinging in the face. Seems like I can tan up to a certain point before I start burning, much sooner than I would have expected.

I didn’t think I could tan when I was younger, but I discovered in my teens I have to put on tanning oil and tan for abt 30 minutes every three days gradually increasing the time to get any color and it fades very quickly. I mostly just get a lot of freckles that fade in the winter. If I stand out in the sun without gradually getting some color for 45 min or more I turn red, peel, and turn the same color I was. I don’t even bother trying to tan anymore since I’m afraid of getting skin cancer. I have prob skin type 1 Celtic type.
