Before the coming of Islam to Southeast Asia. Indonesia was ruled by the Indianized Kingdom of Majapahit which had a Hindu Sivaist Religion thanks to the acculturation of Hindu mores brought about by Indian merchants and local kings who also imported liturgical experts from the Subcontinent, well versed in Rajah-Dharma (Kharma of Kings)

After the spread of Islam, Hinduism died out in Southeast Asia as the Majapahit empire was eclipsed by the rise of the Sultanates of Acheh, Malacca, Mataram, Mollucas and Ternate except in the island of Bali were Hinduism still subsists even as they were surrounded by Muslims.

In this regard, ado you think that these Balinese Hindus have some overlap with Hindus from India?
