Hi, my mother was born in Germany and according to her her mothers family came from Czechoslovakia.. Our mtdna is N1B with the following code :

16145 A

16176 G

16223 T

16390 A

.. Can anyone tell me in layman's terms what this means?.. Is her mtdna European ? Middle Eastern? Jewish?

I can't find any information on N1 , However I have seen that N1A and N1B seam to be related (in small percentages) to some European Jewish populations, I don't understand how or if this is related to me...... Thanks!

N1a have nothing to do with Jews, N1b seem to be common among Jews, but N1a have not been found in Jews to my knowledge.

N1a have been detected in both Megalithic and LBK remains in Western and Central Europe, there is also a 23 000 years old Paglicci grave (Italy) Cro magnon which belonged to N*(most likely N1 or N1a)

In human mitochondrial genetics, Haplogroup N is a human mitochondrial DNA haplogroup. An enormous haplogroup spanning many continents, the macro-haplogroup N, like its sibling M, is a descendant of haplogroup L3.
All mtDNA haplogroups found outside of Africa are descendants of either haplogroup N or its sibling haplogroup M. M and N are the signature haplogroups that define the out of Africa migration and the subsequent spread to rest of the world.

N1b2 is the one that is considered part of the Ashkenazi founder population.

I'm actually N1b1, which seems fairly exclusive to Lithuania and surrounding areas in other countries. At any rate, all N1b's originally came from the Caucasus and Near East.
