A WOMAN has told how she swam for her life when she was being mauled by a giant fish in a popular city lagoon.
Danielle Mawer, 23, was bleeding, scratched and exhausted after she escaped the "extremely aggressive" fish, reports the NT News.
"Without being overly dramatic, I did think I was going to die," she said.
Ms Mawer, of Sydney in New South Wales, was swimming alone towards the back right of the Waterfront recreational lagoon when she was hit and chased back to shore.
The woman was injured as she was dragging her body up a rocky pier to escape the beast.
Maybe it was an alien fish..
