View Full Version : Has the European genetic landscape changed at all within the past 500 years?
If so, by how much? I am wondering because many colonial Americans, French-Canadians, and Mestizos seem to score some Caucasus region on AncestryDNA. It wouldn't make sense for them to have Caucasian admixture, so I was wondering if Western Europeans were more West Asia-shifted years ago.
We will know after next year.

Is there a study being conducted?

Tens of millions of people in their prime reproduction age are invading Europe.

There is probably a founder effect; colonial ancestors came in small successive waves overtime from a larger one via immigration; so the genetic continuity will be somewhat homogeneous in the sense that they come from shared common areas from their country of origin as populations dissipate overtime.

There is no major change in native European genetics in the last 500 years. But with millions of Middle Easterners in Europe now and it seems more are on the way and entering every year, there could be some change as this population eventually mixes with native Europeans. Or they could remain separate and unassimilated and there could be less mixing. They could wound up like Gypsies possibly, in that sort of fashion, and it may be them that become mixed with European genetics. No one really knows yet. But it looks like the climate in Europe around immigration is boiling over lately and there may be some cataclysmic event that could happen in the future. Or not. Again, no one knows.

Well that could be possible too. They could become a majority Euro population with recent North African/Middle Eastern admixture. No one knows yet.
