I think it is safe to assume that it must come from somewhere on the Colonial line. And I think it's not that rare, actually. I'm sure many Americans would have some native American ancestry, if they are of Colonial descent, the odds are that they probably have an ancestor that was. It's the same with other Colonial peoples, like white South Africans will usually have at least 1 non white ancestor somewhere down the line, and I am not sure about Australians but it's probably the same for them too.

Well, if you examine the chromosomal map I linked to, you'll see that the Native American is located on Chromosome 7, on the bottom bar. That same bar has a long string of French and German, with British and Irish taking up the end part of the bar. So, the same parent that I inherited a lot of French and German from, with British and Irish, is the one I inherited the Native American blood from. Conversely, on Chromosome 11, on the top bar, you'll see the Broadly Southern European, with a bit of undefined and the Sub Saharan African following that. French and German follow, with Scandinavian also present. I seem to have inherited most of the French and German from the parent represented by the bottom bar, which, keeping the Cajun in mind, would lead me to believe that my mother is represented by the bottom bar. Her people were from Kentucky, Tennessee and Louisiana. The possible tribes, then, would be Cherokee, Shawnee and Miq- Maq. As the French and German follow from the Native American, one would assume I got that from the Cajun line, but that might be misleading. See how complicated this all gets?

Well if race is a social construct then so are ethnic groups.

I would say probably just Northern Europe/North Western Europe.

Answer me this: if race is a " social construct" ( pretending for a minute that we don't know damned well that it's a biological reality), why can we send in saliva samples and get approximate averages on our ancestry that are either spot on or close to it?

Quick question

Are Amerimutts DNA stabilized? Because it appears by the chromosome painting that the segments are longish in length. I'd of thought the chromosome painting would have been more intricately broken down into smaller segments.

Compare this to a Mexican mestizo for example, and the painting will show broken up segments into small pieces.

It depends on the American. I'm not quite as mixed as most of my countrymen, so my segments will be a little longer.

This thread, by the by, is open to absolutely everyone who wants to share their Chromosome 23andMe DNA stats and have a talk about it. :)

I notice nothing on the X for British and Irish but substantial on X for French and German. Not sure what to make of that.

Let me give you my thoughts on the matter. :) I'm thinking that it's possible that you might have gotten your X chromosome from one of your mother's parents who have or had some bit of French and/ or German ancestry. I felt confused when I saw that my X chromosome is British and Irish because my mother's mother's mother was of French derivation. I confused mt DNA with the X Chromosome, you see. When one gets an X chromosome, it may not necessarily be from the mother's mother. It might be from the mother's father, whilst you will always get your Y DNA from your father's father's father, etc., and your mt DNA from your mother's mother's maternal ancestress.
