Well, I really don't know what went wrong. The "post" table of the database was irreversibly damaged; corrupted. It had 4.2 million posts on it, so it was quite huge.

Was it the Turks? I have no idea but I won't rule it out, since we have an active Turkish section with lots of debate going on.

If you are a member that has been on this forum for long, and have lost a lot of posts (being me one of them), that's something that pisses off.

To put an example, there is a thread about my native country (Venezuela), where I was showing comments, places, landscapes and people of the different Venezuelan states. I lost lots of posts in there that took me time and effort to make, and I have to start doing them again (because I was showing state by state) to cover the states that are missing from the states that I had already covered.

I also lost a thread started by me, about showing Latin American regions with noticeable Euro input (regions where there are lots of people with equal or more than 60% Euro admixture), with lots of pics and info that took me long of time and effort to collect. And lots of posts and contributions on that same thread from other members were lost as well.

All that without mentioning many other threads that I created and I don't have right now in the top of my head, and countless of responses and interventions from me on many other threads. Is very frustrating.

Personally, I find entering this thread and seeing Database Error again, much more frustrating than losing some posts and threads. In real life, when you talk with people, do you save your words somewhere? I see only a fight here about higher number of posts.

No-one is more sad about the loss of data, posts and new members on here, than myself. It is an irretrievable loss. I could put up (valid) excuses for not having been able to do proper backups in that timeframe, but there is no point.

I am happy, very happy that the forum is back and we have not lost everything. We will work together to make it even greater than it was before. I've already put in an automatic backup option in the control panel, which will be done on a weekly basis.. so such a loss will not happen again.

No-one is more sad about the loss of data, posts and new members on here, than myself. It is an irretrievable loss. I could put up (valid) excuses for not having been able to do proper backups in that timeframe, but there is no point.

I am happy, very happy that the forum is back and we have not lost everything. We will work together to make it even greater than it was before. I've already put in an automatic backup option in the control panel, which will be done on a weekly basis.. so such a loss will not happen again.

A lot of threads and posts, high-quality ones, were lost. I'm disappointed but hopeful that we'll be able to recreate those discussions and the like!

The forum just crashed again today if only for a few moments. The database error page came up, and later it became totally inaccessible, but now it's back. Can't help but feel that the issues that cropped up might come back!

A whole year's worth of posts have been lost, not only yours. Thousands upon thousands are gone. It wasn't Greek mods, it was a database crash.

It does not work with Hotmail for some reason. Tell her to use a gmail address instead.

I too invited someone (before TA crash), and she said, she did not get the verification code and gave up after waiting for two weeks . I thought she did not want to join TA so make up.

Yes, I experienced it this morning. I investigated and restarted MySQL, etc... then saw it must have been upstream problems with the webhost. Seems better now.
