Definitely! On 23andme I scored 1.0% South-Asian; on McDonald's test I scored 1.3%. On gedmatch I usually get between 4.75-10%+ South_Indian. I'd be very thrilled to find at least one South-Asian ancestor back in my family tree if I could, which I have better luck searching for on my maternal line since my mother scores 2.3% South Asian on 23andme but my dad got 0. Both my parents do get South Asian on gedmatch though, my mother a bit more though, gedmatch adding up to the more ancient admixture. One thing I noticed is that the regular Filipino is not as much into genealogy and familytree record keeping as the average American; they don't care much about keeping records of such nature. Heck my mom scores 20% Chinese on 23andme but she has no written record she knows of to verify her DNA results..I might search for some records on Ancestry.com and ask around the older generation of relatives on my mom's side of the family to inquire and gather possible info.

On McDonald I have this long segment-strip of South_Asian on my 2nd chromosome, and a little bit on chromosome 3 and 8 (all totalling to 1.3% according to McDonald) as shown here:

Indonesians apparently score even more South-Asian than the typical Filipino. India has had lots of influence on Southeast Asia culturally, religiously, and through trade in the not-too-ancient past..Compare my McDonald results to this Indonesian guy's results:

According to one source WeGene is supposed to be updating their ancestry composition feature sometime next month (Nov of this year). Currently the test is optimized and most accurate for East Asians only. Hopefully they end up updating their algorithm and methods for non-asians as well in their next update!

From the results I've seen, I'm concluding they are not yet using Scandinavian samples, so they must be classifying any Scandinavian ancestry in the British and Finnish categories, and to some extent in the French as well (hence why so many people get high levels of French). It seems they don't use German either, which must explain why Hungarian is also such a common result.

Yeah this definitely isn't optimized for Europeans. Everyone seems to be getting rather funky results. And the categories aren't even named the same for everyone it seems.

SummaryIf you’re of Southeast Asian descent and you’ve taken a 23andMe or AncestryDNA test, WeGene’s free ancestry service could well be a great way of delving deeper into your data. If you’re of European descent, you may still make discoveries but you’d be forgiven for finding WeGene a bit disappointing – their population reference groups are mainly Chinese and Japanese which will limit your results as a European, and this is exactly what I found!

well kinda. It does give me 92% South asian and 8% East asian/oceanian, which makes sense and the results are similar to my AncestryDNA results. So the broad categories (south asian, SE asian, oceanian) make sense on mine.

I just wish they didn't mess up on the subcategories (Sindhi, Indian, Bengali) cause they make no sense.

I agree, Wegene has pretty cool things to tinker around with. it also says i have more ancestors from the south and that my skin color is relatively dark, which is all true XD
