Hey guys,

My mom recently took the Ancestry DNA test and it was pretty surprising.
I've posted pictures of my ma in taxonomy before (she's Atlantid). Most thought she was part Spanish/French/etc.

Her Results: 44% Great Britain, 34% Irish (Celtic is more fitting), 13% Iberian,
9% trace regions: 4% Central Euro, 3% Scandinavian (she's Scottish, so I assume some Norwegian Vikings mingled with her ancestors), <1% Finnish, <1% Eastern European.

My question: Is it common for a British/Celtic-American to have such high Iberian admixture??

Her genealogy has NO trace of Iberian ancestors, though her paternal family all look very Spaniard.

Ironically, she speaks fluent Spanish too lol, it was meant to be! :)

23andme does a much better job of detecting and assigning Iberian ancestry!

Ancestry.com is a best-fit.

Not typical.

Those ancestry dna tests wich use that terminology are bullshit, they just go by approximation regarding the dna of the populations, it doesn't mean a certain person has ancestry of a certain country/region, that methodology is flawed all european populations show some common dna markers to higher or lower extend. One should focus on ancestral components, do Eurogenes K12, K13 or K15 instead.

British Isles people have significant Iberian peninsula ancestry, but it likely dates back to the Middle Neolithic Iberian farmers/Bell Beakers, aka 5k-4k years ago.

Interestingly, we used to have a poster here whose primary ancestry was nearly all Spanish...she looked like a light blonde version of Bjork. She was very Borrealized, and yet had no traceable ancestry to Scandinavia or any other part of Northern Europe.

Your mom sounds similar to my mom.

13% is quite high for someone just from the British Isles so not typical. You highly likely have some continental ancestry that is contributing to your results.

Just read your mother is Scottish which would make her result highly unusual for a Scot.

Here is my Ancestry so people can compare. I'm 100% Irish. Scots people might get a slightly more varied result but will still have a high Ireland score but not a very high Southern European component.

George is not just British Isles ancestry so he isn't a good example. I would bet if someone like Colin Farrell took an Ancestry test he would get a similar result to myself. I've seen quite a few Irish results. People cluster with their countrymen no matter whether they are brown eyed brunets or blue eyed blonds.

This is the result from someone who has only known ancestry from England, Scotland, Wales and Isle of Man.
