View Full Version : Who do Czechs like (stats)

These statistics are from 2015. Czechs were asked by CVVM (Public Research Centre) to state their attitude toward 17 nationalities that live in Czechia in scale from 1 to 5. For some, unknown to me reasons, among these nationalities were Czechs themselves, what is pretty pointless in my opinion, so I'll not mention them. What is important - in Czech Republic the lower the number the better; when number is bigger the sympathy is lower.

Results seem to be quite surprising, and should be for those who claim that Czechs dislike Poles.

1. Slovaks - 1.76
2. Poles - 2.47
3. Greeks - 2.72
4. Germans - 2.82
5. Jews - 2.83
6. Hungarians - 2.88
7. Bulgarians - 2.95
8. Vietnamese - 3.11
9. Serbs - 3.19
10. Chinese - 3.25
11. Russians - 3.31
12. Ukrainians - 3.44
13. Romanians - 3.55
14. Albanians - 3.74
15. Arabs - 4.02
16. Romani - 4.30

Wonder what reason Czechs have to like us on that level.

We are basically two nations who never even notice each other.

2.95 is pretty much neutral.

"Czechs were asked by CVVM (Public Research Centre) to state their attitude toward 17 nationalities that live in Czechia in scale from 1 to 5."
Czechs were asked about the Polish minority, not about Poles.

What do you know about the Polish minorority in the Czech republic?
They have been living here for centuries; a lot of them can't even speak Polish.

Czechs were asked about Poles. As I have already said, Czechs were asked also about their attitude toward Czechs. I doubt if Czechs are minority in Czech Republic.

They have been living here for centuries;

As well as the Vietnamese, Chinese and Arabs alongside the many other foreigners who are included in the poll.

You really have some strange phobia about Poles.

Czechs are majority in the Czech Republic.
The reasearch (officially called Relation to Different National Groups Living in the Czech Republic - the results 2015: https://czechofil.files.wordpress.com/2015/03/smpatia.png) included all more significant national groups that lived in the Czech Republic, Czechs were the most significant.

You said: Czechs were asked about Poles.
It was not true.
The Polish minority in the Czech republic = Ewa Farna =/= The Poles.
The Vietnamese minority in the Czech republic = * =/= The Vietnamese people in Vietnam

I don't want to argue with you. I like you. But I am not a lier. As I've said before, the Czech attitude towards Polish people is mainly indifferent.

These stats show that attitude is rather positive than neutral. Unless is as you say:

Poles living in Poland - neutral; Poles living in Czechia - positive = cross the border and be liked.

Devastating logic. :p

Once again: What do you know about the Polish minorority in the Czech republic?

"Minority" doesn't refer only to people who live in certain are because their ancestors did. You become a minority when you go to another country and gain its citizenship.

I have already explained that part, but you ignored it. In the moment I've mentioned the Vietnamese and Chinese.

But there aren't "new" Polish immigrants in the Czech republic.

Maybe not en masse, but surely some Poles decide to live in the Czech Republic.

Anyway, my personal opinion is that more Poles are interesting in Czech culture than vice versa. (http://wiadomosci.wp.pl/kat,8173,title,Fenomen-Czech,wid,5401924,wiadomosc.html?ticaid=117a2f)

Could be, although not many Poles know much about Czech Republic at all. There are some stereotypes, of course but some serious facts, I doubt it. But we still know more about Czechs than about Slovaks.

I think south-west Poles know more - Gottland author - Mariusz Szczygiel is from this region, it's because of czechoslovak and later czech tv.

I don't see why it's so important for Poles if we like them or not. The large number of articles "Poles love us but we...." has already been published. E.g. "Poles love Czechs. But you don't love us, the new Polish ambassador said sadly." http://zpravy.idnes.cz/rozhovor-s-polska-velvyslankyne-grazyna-bernatowitz-ppl-/zahranicni.aspx?c=A131106_100547_zahranicni_aha
It's kind of emotional blackmail.

I have few theories, I'll say about it below.

That is one of options. Quite possible one.

I don't see why it's so important for Poles if we like them or not.

I am not sure if it is really that much important for us. You know, it is not healthy to care too much about what someone thinks about you. I've just posted this thread because I remember few posts from here telling the otherwise, and I like statistics. No matter if being correct or not, there is always something to debate about.

I'd rather say it is crazy way of thinking from Polish ambassador's side.

But back to the reasons, why Poles like Czechs, I think it has something to do with our other neighbours. Germans - wars and occupation. Russians - wars and occupation, some genocides too. Lithuanians - strange policy toward Polish minority, they have some weird issues with us. Belarusians - this is quite surprising one, because they are really fine but quite disliked according to Polish public opinion research centre; maybe Poles tend to identify them with Russians. Ukrainians - war, massacre of civilians, glorification of war criminals. Who's left? Czechs and Slovaks. What kind of problems we had with each other? Except some conflicts on the border in times when everyone was in war with everyone, none.

I am surprised however, that Czechs are on the first place regarding most liked nations by Poles. I understand Czechs might be high, but on first place? THAT high?

The other case might be the childhood. Probably everyone here have watched Rumcajs, Krecik and other cartoons made in Czechoslovakia, so basically people here have no bad experiences with Czechs, at the same time having some good ones.

Also, possibly being together in Visegrad Group helps here too.

Just my opinions.
