http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~klio/im/ane/saddam-nebuchad.jpg
this (below) is a rather crummy 'recreation' of one of the saddam murals by some american guy who made recreations of various of the destroyed murals, complaining that their loss was 'like the talaban destroying the buddahs' (!). Interesting imagery although not great painting, unfortunately I couldn't find a picture of the original.

intresting little gallery of art Saddam had:
link (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/photo_gallery/2956349.stm)
too small, but it seems Saddam was a fan of kitsch fantasy art- how revealing ;) - critics often called totalitarian art esp. russian as 'kitsch'.
a larger pic of one of them:

this was another - apparantly

sorry it's too small. you can find it in Southpark art.
even toys...
My favourite is learder's theme in comics of North Korea

also "Blizzard in the Jungle" about a group lost in African jungles

also check chosonhwa painting

there are more of chosonhwa, but what i can say is that the style and settings are one-to-one with Soviet social realism ;-)

No... Your picture reveals the Stalinist national policy. Not necessarily anti-national at all. It looks a bit like the animals waiting to board Noah's
And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. :thumb001:

is this totalitarian art? certainly, they have a message but...
hmm...it doesn't look like brutalist. it reminds things from children's art.
would you mention the country/artist of this painting? are these things murals or posters?

Well, I didn't mean the actual artistic style, more the mentality and ideology behind this kind of art.

I've got a few more to scan but don't have a scanner atm.
These magazines were modelled on "Readers Digest" and provided some interesting articles on life in the Soviet Union.

Yay!!!!!!! Sergei Pavlovich Korolyov on the front of January 1971! I used to live near his flat, and knew people who'd worked with him. :p
I've got TONS of stuff in boxes myself, which I might show some time. :)
this magazine issues are great! haven't heard of it before but as far as i understand it was a special edition targeted at Western countries...
not always succesfully though :) see article
http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-6851938.html
(if you can read it with Free trial))
it'd be rather interesting to see some of comics books or comic strips related to this theme (i mean Soviet or communist power) i should've done some research on it but i'm sure what i'll find will be total propaganda. still i suppose there might be some works mocking on or critisizing the system (e.g. brought by emmigrant artists )
??? :)
