I was recently introduced to this group while sipping an ice cold Baltika and eating pickles at this funky Bolshevik Russia-inspired resto-bar (http://www.avantgardebar.com/) in downtown Ottawa.

Actually, they were pretty decent on Sweet Home Alabama. But it can be a little jarring to see band members in Russian Army uniforms playing this song. :eek::D

The Leningrad Cowboys were originally a fictional band, created for the bizarre road movie Leningrad Cowboys Go America (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097728/), and its sequel Leningrad Cowboys Meet Moses (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107384/), directed by this guy (http://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18853).

The members of the band are actual musicians tho, most of them members of the (quite lame) Finnish comedy/novelty group Sleepy Sleepers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleepy_Sleepers).

Those films aren't exactly my cup of tea, but they seem to have a faithful if sparsely spread out fanbase around the world.

Way too cool! Thanks for the info, E. I had no idea they were Finnish!! Of course I'm reading this post out loud to the fam and my son quickly replies: "Yeah I knew that!" :rolleyes: :D
