Atlantropa a new continent

The Atlantropa proposal to dam the Strait of Gibraltar. Every description of the idea starts with the appeal of a tremendous electric power source. As demonstrated by the Lago Mare event, the Mediterranean operates as a net water sink, due to low rainfall and high insolation. Water flowing through the Strait of Gibraltar (and the Bosporus, Nile, etc.) are required in order to prevent the sea level from falling rapidly. The strait of Gibraltar is only 14 kilometers across at its narrowest point, and about 300 meters deep on average.

I dont think its a good idea, You will ruin ports and trading in the mediterranean, and I don't think europeans wanna share a continent with africans nowadays, immigration ya know.

Also the new lands might be useless and infertile, let alone ruining the lakes, It would have unforeseen consequences

Hmm.. I don't think it is such a good idea, for several reasons:

- Current coastal cities won't be coastal cities anymore (or the coastline would be much further away). Hence, all the holiday properties built along the sea coast would become worthless.
- Who will own the new land? There would be lots of fights.
- Who will settle the new lands? Immigrants from Africa?
- It would be strategically easier to cut off access to the Atlantic during wartime, and some won't like it.
- It would be much easier to access Europe from Africa.

two global powers have their own genetic soup of citizens, for example US have Amerindians (indigenous), etc, and the price of 3-rd strength include opening borders for N. Africans
besides we all now that it is about gas and oil resources, some will be able to use it (EU), some will get better standard of living (NA)
but this is also a threat for US (so UK too) and Russia so I predict that nothing will happen
just an unrealized idea
