Not really. Mongoloids don't fall in to the same latitude-skin cline that Caucasoids do. Hokkaido Japanese aren't lighter than Okinawans. If anything, Mongoloids get darker the further north you go.

Oh wow. I've never seen Japanese who looked like that before. Would never guess it in Hokkaido.

It's very common for certain Japanese to resemble Southeast Asians to a certain degree IMO; this type of phenotype makes up a significant fraction of the population I would think...Koreans less so.

On admixture runs Japanese score a decent amount of the Austronesian component(light blue), and even some minor South Asian etc...

This map represents an approximation of different degree in the human skintone based on the Luschan Scale.

The following table shows the 36 categories of the von Luschan scale in relation to the six categories of the Fitzpatrick scale:[2][3]

Fitzpatrick type von Luschan scale Also called
I 0–6 Very light or white, "Celtic" type[4]
II 7–13 Light or light-skinned European[4]
III 14–20 Light intermediate, or dark-skinned European[4]
IV 21–27 Dark intermediate or "olive skin"[4]
V 28–34 Dark or "brown" type
VI 35–36 Very dark or "black" type

Sorry for double posting. On the map above, the Koreans score 4.40-4.50 and the Japanese and Chinese score 4.70, which means that the Japanese are slightly darker than the Koreans by 0.20-0.30 on the Luschan Scale. The entire map can be viewed from the link.

From personal experiences I have seen many Japanese people, especially tourists and they seemed very light skinned. I know Koreans mostly from videos and they seemed to have a more yellowish skin complexion, but in reality I believe these two people would be quite similar to one another.

They have the same variations in skin tone, however it is easier to find light Koreans than Japanese. It's notable that even Korean men are mostly light skinned although when it comes to women, very pale Japanese are very, very 'white'. In fact, so much so I've even heard Europeans (West and North Europeans) claim that the "Japanese are whiter than white people". Of course, I don't think this is to be taken literally, Nordics, Celts and Anglo Saxons are often known to be self deprecating when giving compliments.

Some Japanese high school students:

They honestly don't look very distinguishable from Koreans so I really can't fault Europeans for being unable to tell them apart. Most native Japanese and Chinese have the same opinion themselves that East Asians look alike. While Koreans do make the distinction between Chinese, most don't see themselves as different from the Japanese.

FME, it's often 'racists' with obvious agendas that exaggerate the differences between Japanese and Koreans. And it's important to note that these 'racists' are often not East Asian or White.

Indeed, I also encountered many Japanese, even Chinese women who had whiter skin than many Europeans. I wonder what's the natural explanation for such White skin present among many East Asians?

Indeed, I also encountered many Japanese, even Chinese women who had whiter skin than many Europeans. I wonder what's the natural explanation for such White skin present among many East Asians?Yes, it's a really interesting subject since research has shown that East Asians are light skinned for different reasons than Europeans. While lowered melanin levels result in Europeans having greater incidences of skin cancer than Africans, East Asians have the same skin cancer risks as Africans. This means that less melanin is not the reason Asians have light skin but rather a separate and unidentified gene/mutation.

While East Asians -- Chinese, Japanese and Korean -- also are light skinned, these European alleles are not present, suggesting that while both groups' lighter skin color evolved to allow for better creation of vitamin D in northern climates, they did so in a different way. This difference also affects skin cancer rates. Europeans have 10 to 20 times higher rates of melanoma than Africans. However, despite also having lighter skin, East Asians have the same melanoma rates as Africans. The reason for this difference can only be explained when the gene mutations for both groups are found.http://news.psu.edu/story/147191/2012/08/30/study-tribe-could-help-find-east-asian-skin-color-genes

That's mostly South Koreans, and primarily drawing distinctions to Taiwanese and HKers who they've interacted the most up to the last two decades. Ethnic Koreans in NE China are pretty much indistinguishable with the local population.

Also, Koreans tend to be quite rude and ill mannered just like many Mainland Chinese tourists. They should be the last ones to talk. When I was in Taiwan, the Korean tourists were so loud and obnoxious, no fucking manners at all.

Clearly, East Asians and European light skin comes from different sources because the complexion is completely different. Asians have more of a yellow hue to their skin, while Europeans have a pinkish hue. Completely different. Also, when East Asians are really light skinned, they are almost ivory white.

However, where the Chinese are rude because of obliviousness and ignorance (a whole generation were uneducated due to the Cultural Revolution), elderly Koreans/peasants also come with arrogance and hostility.

Usually yes,

Besides, tanned-skin Ryukyuans living in the southernmost achipelago may have partial Austronesian origins.

On the other hand, Ainu living in Hokkaido and Sakhalin tend to have a lighter skin.

They have absolutely the same fucking skin color

but Koreans are obsessed with light skin(some Japanese too), especially young girls, they use many products to bleach skin, you can see that odlers and males are quite darker than girls on average

pictures from the 1800s and 1900s you can see koreans pretty "dark"
