I occasionally squat instead of sitting, its a bit hard for me to hold the position for a while though as I'm overweight.
A proper resting squat is a comfortable sitting position. The key to it is not lifting your ankles off the ground, IMO.
Some people(especially westerners) instinctively lift their ankles while attempting to squat, I somehow never do this as it feels unnatural. Maybe because we used to have Indian style toilets at home when I was a kid

I know some Indians who prefer to squat on western style toilets too, but I think that's a bit dangerous...
