Yes, as most people in the US are of English descent.

Though most people claim Irish or German the most English is actually still the top ethnicity - it was in the 1980s by a longshot and it isn't possible a number so high could have come down so drastically since then. Most people who just claim 'American' as their ethnicity (mostly Southerners) would be of pred. English stock, as well.

To me he would pass best in America as a member of one of the really old WASPy families of New England. Boston Aristocracy or something like that.

if you go to the Eastern coast of America (especially the isolated fishing communities of the sea islands and virginia in Smith Island and Tangier) you will hear a striking resemblance with their accent to the English spoken in the WestCountry of English (Dorset, Devonshire, and Cornwall) and parts of Bristol, and the countryside where their R's are strongly pronounced unlike in London English or in East Anglia where their R's are non-existant which is obviously a more Germanic-Saxon-Anglo influenced English or more English.
