"WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A group of police (http://www.leap.cc/cms/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=80) and judges who want to legalize drugs pointed to new FBI numbers released today as evidence that the 'war on drugs' is a failure that can never be won. The data, from the FBI's 'Crime in the United States' report, shows that in 2008 there were 1,702,537 arrests for drug law violations, or one drug arrest every 18 seconds."

I can only imagine how decisive the results would be if marijuana legalization were put up for a popular vote.

Yes but it never will be. It would mean tens of thousands of Federal/State employees would lose their jobs.

Prison guards/police/drug agencies/prison construction companies/contractors/detectives....... those are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of industries reliant on it staying illegal.
