“This is a small step for Europe, but a very large step for Estonia,” said Madis Võõras, innovation consultant for Enterprise Estonia, a national support system for entrepreneurship which also carries the role of Estonia’s space office.

Estonia and the European Space Agency signed a cooperation agreement, which would direct procurement funds to science and technology entrepreneurs in Estonia.

The initiative provides locals in the high-tech sector with opportunities for more ambitious plans through financial support and new potential partners. The agreement establishes 12 development projects related to satellite communication and other space technologies. Estonia’s membership fee will be 65,000 euros annually.

Participating in the projects are Tartu Observatory, Tallinn University of Technology, University of Tartu, Regio, Skeleton, Vertex Estonia and Estrotech.

Yap. And I wonder why Europe isn't going to invest more in that French Guiana-base in order to make us less dependent or looks for a place somewhere else in Europe that could serve as a new base.

No place in Europe is near enough to the equator for a new space shuttle launch base.

Then the Europeans should continue to use the CSG in French Guiana or be much smarter and literary join forced with the Russians in a joint Russian/European ESA and use Baikonur.
