First set Spanish and second French? If that's correct is the first man in the second set ethnic French?

Easy. The first ones are the Northern Spaniards. Some of them, especially this last lady, have typical (Spanish) Basque faces.

The second are the Southern French, even if some of them don't look particularly "southern"

lol with your cherry picked examples. I would say that not that easily, in many cases.

1st Spaniards visibly more Atlanto shifted
2nd set French more alpinoid and gracilized.

Right. The first group is the mayor and councillors of Vitoria, Basque Country, Spain. The second group is the mayor and councillors of Mont de Marsan, Aquitaine, France.

Too late but yes it was easy, a lot more highly Basque faces in the first set (9 and 12 in particular)

WTF, I'm awaiting for your "non cherry picked" examples. The Basques are clearly the most similar to the Southwestern French. I could have choosen a non Basque group (Castilian or Aragonese), then the differences would had been more obvious.

I live in the Basque Country and I'm not sure there's really a Baskoid phenotype (Are phenotypes a scientifically valid concet ? I'm skeptical) But I have a good friend from San Sebastian who's living in Vitoria-Gasteiz who looks like her, she has some features shared with many Basques women. I don' t know about the 12

The woman n°5 has also a very common face in Spain. If I see a tourist wherever in the world with this kind of face, I would immediately conclude she's Spanish, and not Italian.

I thought you said you were living in Paris, but either way some look Basque, some look Spanish in the fist set. Not much of a surprise for a Spanish Basque council, is it.

I was only BORN in Paris.

I think that the French City council is more mixed than the Spanish one. Some of its members even seem Belgian or Dutch to me

This isn't surprising either. SW France has more WHG admixture than anyone in France and pretty much any country in Europe, it's only challenged by the French Basques.

That's maybe the reason why I see more "Basque faces" in Egoalde (south of the "border") than in Iparralde (north). We never say "French Basques" or "Spanish Basques". There is only ONE united Basque people. :p

I guessed correctly but for me it wasn't exactly easy. On the other had I believe that at least the people from those regions can almost always tell if a random set of people is S. French or N. Spanish + Basque. It may be more difficult with certain individuals.

In fact, 9 is the mayor, Gorka Urtaran, he looks very Basque, I agree.

With these big glasses, it's hard to see a face properly, but at least his name, Gorka Urtaran, demonstrates he's 100% Euskal.

I have nothing against these immigrants. And please stop using that word "maketo". The Basques are reputed to be reclusive and close but at least they know what "ongi etorri" means.
